down pipe knocking

Hi guys,

well Im assuming im not the first person with this problem of the front pipe knocking on the cars lower brace.. so whats the typical solution for this kind of problem other than fitting a spacer to the braces? or is there an after market down pipe out there that has a large diameter and yet gives enough clearance without adding spacers?

or is this what everybody does??

the noise only came after a few weeks of fitting the pipe

thanks for the help everyone

i would really love to avoid using spacers so any additional thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Order the cool "Borg Cubes" from Vishnu. They are little hardened aluminum block spacers that go into the lateral braces. You will need 5 of them and the five longer bolts. They work great. Unfortunately, the braces will be about 3/4 of an inch closer to the ground after the install, but not a problem.

I was going to recommend you get them from Al at Dynoflash but then I remembered that he doens't make anything.

Yea, the spacers work really well. I've been using them for about 4 months with no scrapping issues at all. Plus they give you good clearance for about any brand of down pipe.

I bought RMR downpipe and RMR brace and the DP still hit the brace underload going over a bump. Cheap solution.... Bend it a little more. Works fine

I have noticed no ill effects to handling with the spacers. There pretty solid peices with a good grade of bolt. This same issue was discussed at length over on the Vishnu boards some time ago with a much better explaination than I could give. I think people were concerned about deflection in the spacer/bolt itself or something like that, but theres no way, the spacer has a large surface area and its less than an inch thick. Its as solid as stock in my opinion. Now actually bending the tie bars themselves, like someone else suggested my be a different story, that seems like it could mess some **** up.

your bending the bar by roughly 1/2 in to 3/4. In now way will you ever notice a handling decrease unless you have spyer man sense

Thumbs up Helix 3" downpipe clears lower braces

I just installed the Helix DP. No knocking on lower braces.
Gruppe-S recommends adding spacers but I don't think it is needed. there's still a lot of room between the DP and downpipe after installation. I think these will even clear the thick Cusco lower arm bar ver1 and ver2.

you can find more info and pix about this dp here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=56897
