Please everyone chime in your EGT #'s

My questions for everyone are,
What EGT temps do you see at the top of 4th(7000rpms)?
Please include your mods, boost at redline, Octane of Fuel, and what spark plugs you are running. Also, any piggybacks and your settings.

I have the stock plugs and 15500 miles on the car. Pushing 19-20psi at redline I am seeing 900-910 degrees Celcius on my egt on the top of 4th, only 830-840 on the top of 3rd. So, I turned it down to 17 and now I see 880 on the top of 4th. I am wondering if different plugs will help to run cooler. I saw the same egt reading with stock fuel and also with my afc settings which are:
4800 -2
5400 -4
6000 -9
6600 -9
7000 -9
7400 -3
Only saw my EGT's drop when I lowered the boost to 17psi. I only have 91 octane here. Maybe the ECU is just pulling crazy timing out, which causes the high egt's.

I am going to try to run some bpr7es' on the car gapped to .032, this is what Buschur runs on his evo, and see if I notice lower egt's.

Any advice or reply's will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Barry

Guess I am really limited by the 91 fuel we have over here. I am running stock fuel again and only 17psi at redline. The car pulls much smoother and the very highest EGT temp I see is only 860 Celcius.

900+ seems a little high to me.

Those plugs will get your EGT's down but you will feel a lose of power too just FYI. They will most likley get the job done for you though.

I hate EGT's! Just put some tape over the thing. Tune by Knock count and Air Fuel Ratio! But Just for the record on my eclipse the EGT was 800 - 825 at 8000 rpm @26 psi of boost and 15 degrees of timing. Oh yeah, MAX out 720 cc injectors!

Thanks for the advice. What fuel were you using at 26psi and what turbo? I only have 91. I assume you were pretty rich too, right?

Do you have anything to measure knock?

The AFC-2 displays knock count, but I wouldn't go off of that. I will tune it some when I get on the east coast and have 93-94 octane. Also, I will be getting a datalogger and a nice wideband setup to assists my tunning efforts. This of course would be fine tunning as I plan to get the mail in Dynoflash in the future.

Thanks for all the advice though.

dont run those ****ty coppers. Leave your stock iridiums in, unless you plan on getting some colder iridium plugs. BTW those coppers shouldnt be gapped to .032, not on a 20psi turbo car. Also, where did you place your egt probe>?

Try lowering your afc settings to -7 or -8 in the upper ranges. 91 octane is ****, you will get mild knock on that octane, leaning it out doesnt help things. Run some toluene or lower your afc settings.

There is no device to measure knock count on the evo. I assume you were using dsmlink to get knock count out of your 2G. 15 degrees advance at redline isnt very good btw.

The best thing you can do on the EVO to see when the ecu is pulling timing is by looking at a datalogger to see when your timing decreases under wot. Sample that vs RPM. Or you can visually see it, by looking on the dyno torque curve, that is if the dyno has high resolution.

Just wondering, where did you tap you EGT probe?

What runner, how close, after the turbo....These all will affect EGt's a little.

Has anyone found which runner runs leanest yet?

I tapped mine after the turbo. I never see anything higher than 1200F in 4th at 7300 RPM. They say that intake runner #1 is the best one to tap before the turbo though.
