Do I need a new clutch?

Driving today, I was noticing that when I was accelerating, my rpms would raise slightly and then lower.. I have heard people say it is the clutch giving out.. Could it be something less expensive?

If the problem is that I do need a new clutch is there a clutch you would reccomend, and any other things you might change while I (if I decide to do the clutch job) have everything already off/out of the car?

Yep the clutch is gone, but if your going to take and install the new clutch yourself, your going to have to take off the flywheel, and pressure plate and have the maching shop mill it down so its fresh for the new clutch disc to bed in, and a new TOB. since you have the flywheel off, just check to see if the seal on the crank is leaking or not, it shouldn't be but you never know. Also see if there is anyplay on your output shaft on the tranny.

Check the clutch master cylinder for leaks or any other leaks in the system, if all is good then you need a clutch.

leaks in the system would only cause the clutch to not disengage, you need a new clutch

i run a spec stage 2+ and i love it, the pedal feels stock and driving is perfect and smooth yet when you want to romp on it and bang gears that thing grabs hard and accurate

Have heard Lots of problems with ACT clutches with high rpm lockout and the springs falling apart on the disk, I've had a problem and read alot with my exedy triple and similiar, im sure every clutch has problems but I would probably recommend the exedy twin or some kind of single disc BUT no one can recommend what to get if you dont put a sigmature with what parts are on your car or at least what hp/torque its making. Obviously dont need a triple for a stock car and cant use a single on a crazy setup. Make a sig

I run the act hdss with a lightweight flywheel and love it, but it also depends on hp goals and type of driving and how much cash your willing to dish out you could also upgrade to a braided clutch line as far as lockouts I haven't had any problems with mine but that doesn't mean they don't happen to other people I have been told its all in the adjustments

Currently i'm pretty broke from just paying for school, so a cheap but nice kit that would work well, i like to accelerate often.

As for the signature that was requested, look below this post

Do you think that having not done it before, using the How To tips, having never changed a clutch in an evo, (did a few different rwd cars) and having help from a friend i might be able to do it myself?

Its a big job. Some people are great mechanics right out of the box and some people have trouble with the simplest of mechanical tasks.
