just installed my HKS EVC. You wont believe this...

O.K. I just installed my XMAS presant. HKS EVC. Took 2 days. I will take pics soon. Did the stereo lowering job. I highly recomend it. Looks great and was 3rd grade easy. The controller gauge was mounted in the stereo slot. I have room for a TT or that knock sensor i want. The knobs are under the new stereo location. KILLER. So lets go for a test drive. I set the "A" at 20 PSI (OR so I thought) went out and about **** myself. This is not the same car. I mean i never really got into all the hype because my car just never did it for me. I have been killed by every 5.0 mustang on the road and Hondas keep up with me easily. I ripped!!!!! but wait, the boost gauge only went to 12PSI. WTF????? Folks 20 on the dial isnt 20 PSI, its like 20% or somthing. I dialed till the PSI went to 19. (where i set the warning) OH MY GOD I now own an EVO!!!!!! At 12 PSI it runs awsome. Should i just keep it there if ime happy?? or run at 19?? or can the evc be that far off on its reading? and just think, i ordered a Burschur turbo back??!!! o.k. so now the question is WTF was wrong with my absouloutely stock car to begin with??????? Man ime excited and just had to vent it... ............RRR

I think your EVC is either not hooked up correctly or it's broken.
12PSI isn't sh*t.
My BOV got stuck open. I was pushing 11psi, what a dog.
Double check your connections for the boost gauge part.
You may be over-boosting and could blow your motor.

You could have the Kpa version and what you think is 12psi is actually 1.2bar?

dude stock, the car runs 19.5 psi. Set it to 12 and the car is slow.

If he was overboosting, he'd probably be hitting fuel cut.

Most EBCs have the wastegate duty cycle represented as a percentage. Once you disconnect the factory boost solenoid, you'll see much lower boost.

For example, my Profec B - Spec II is set to 64% and at its highest spike, I see around 19-20 PSI.

i have the boost controll set up right. I tapped the line that goes to the BOV for the boost pressure. Then one goes to the turbo discharge and one to the waste gate. Pretty basic. I have the PSI version too. Ime telling you at 12 PSI, if the gauge is accurate, i rip!!! The car has never ran this good before. I might get a manual gauge to verify the boost. Should i "T" into the turbo discharge or on the manifold?? RRR

The number 20 is not psi or kPa. It is the duty cycle percentage. Crank it up to 60-70 for 20psi. I have the EVC also and my setting are a: 32 and b: 66 for a: 16psi and b: 21psi.

The only things that sounds weird is if your only hitting 12 psi it shouldn't feel fast at all.

You should also get your boost readings from the manifold, it's more representative than the boost out at the turbo.
I was also told by a couple different tuners to NOT T-off the BOV line, although , that is what I'm doing.
It's best to have seperate vac/boost signals for the fuel pressure reg, boost gauge (or boost controller/gauge) and the BOV.
This requires tapping two more fittings into the manifold.

coolguy, ill try that first thing in the morning. What should it say. I know when i turn it off, i think it still registers boost/vacuum. also i idle at 15-16 hg when warmed up.... RRR

Hello .. just a thought .. if you use back the same hoses.. there's a restrictor in one of the reference hose that taps to the compressor side .. if you never remove that .. then possibly you're running higher boost than what you're actually seeing..

Or possibly you could have one of the VIIIs that came from factory with one of the stock boost solenoid hoses crimped (for no reason other than to p*ss the owner )

well i plumbed in another gauge to see if the hks was accurate. Its 1 PSI off. So there is no 30 PSI boost thing going on. You know, i guess the car ran like crap when i got it. Never knew it other than getting beat by every Honda on the road. Now i think i finally see the excitement everyone else has!!!! That is the best money i ever spent!!! RRR

yep, that happens, most of people thinking the number is psi or kPa, including myself.
once find out that just percentage, realized how accurate the HKS evc is, compared to other ebc,
