Stock engine durability

I just wanted to post an update on my cars reliability as of late.

Right now I have about 86k on the stock engine. The head has never been off the car the only upgrades internally were GSC S1 cams.
The car made 420whp/420ftlb at about 34k miles on E85 with a 9 turbo and mods. I drove on that setup for about 2 years until I switched to a 60-1 that I turned back to 24lbs making mid 400's. So all in all I've put 50k HARD miles on the stock engine and I've had 0 issues. The car has been tracker/autocross/daily driven this entire time and hopefully this weekend it will see around 28-30psi on the 60-1 once I install the second pump.
Pretty much Mitsubishi is the **** and did a great job on our engines.

I have a few friends with over 100K miles on their stock engine Evos. Engine and drivetrain is what this car is about! The rest are just "fluffs".

These are the kinds of posts that I like to see. Real world results that in my opinion answer alot of questions about the durability of our drivetrains. That and it sounds like you know how to drive.

From what I've heard and read, 400 Ft/lbs is about the limit of what the connecting rods can handle. Big turbos are easier on internal components because you make more power through revs, rather than torque but it's wise to be careful still.

Well like i said I managed to get 420ft lbs out of the IX turbo. My goal with the 60-1 that is currently on my car is 500+whp. Torque can be milder and I'm going to attempt to tune it so it's lower with less timing. We shall see. This is my DD so if it blows up I'll have to drive an old rusty s10 until I rebuild it haha

The stock motor is really stout! Really the only thing that tends to take out the stock motors are tq. Keep tq below 400-420 and it will last for a long time. I ran 550whp/425tq for 2 years and never had a problem. You can help control tq with timing.

Keep beating the shiz out of it and don't be be a puss. lol

About to do my second major service (timing belt, wp, etc...) on my '05 VIII. The way these motors hold up to big power for miles and miles is unheard of in the Subaru community

Thanks for the post. I've had my '05 for about a year now and put on 15k miles with zero issues (now at 85k miles). I was worried about buying a used evo but it looks like as long as the previous owner(s) aren't a complete idiot these things will run for a long time.
