Need Help, Stock Evo 8 Clutch.

Hello fellow board members. I have a 2005 Evo 8 GSR. I recently had the Mitsu dlealership install a brand new stock clutch and flywheel. Let me give a brief background of my car...I'd say it's fairly moddified w/ 379 WHP and 295lbs of torque. I had an Exedy twin disk installed on my car until it crapped out on me due to the retainer ring breaking. Since I plan on selling the car, I opted for the dealer to install a brand new stock clutch and flywheel.

I got the car back a week ago and did the 500 miles break in period (Actually did 700 miles). I decided to test out the clutch, I never launch my car so everything is from a rolling start. Thru all my gears, when I get to 5k rpms my clucth slips. I took it back to the dealership and the mech and service manager told me that since I have a lot of HP which will make it slip. I told him that the clutch is based on torque not HP. He then corrected himself and said HP and Torque combined. I feel like they are giving me the run around, they said they will contact Mitsu Headquarters. My question is, will the brand new stock clutch hold the 295lbs torque that I have? Just want to get your guys opinion...Thank you.

Can you expand on your hp and tq figures? Are these numbers from a dyno and if so what kind? No offense but I dont see how or why you are making 379whp and only 295ft/lbs...

Granted those figures would not make the clutch slip but I need to establish some grounds first.

And on a different note unless you have a really lazy turbo I do not see why the clutch would be slipping at 5grand when peak power should most likely have already been achieved.

Sounds like an install error personally but more info is needed.

The major mods I have is the Buscher GT35R Turbo kit, Buddy club 272 (i/e) cams, turbo back w/ T-pipe, hks intake, 1000cc injector, JDM BOV, Greedy type 2 boost controller on a conservative tune (91 pump gas).

OK I didnt realize you had a 35r on there. That makes way more sense now. Nonetheless the stock clutch should be able to hold that torque so it still sounds like an install error.

I agree I feel that it's an install error, but the dealer keeps on saying that the car makes too much power and the clutch won't hold. They are going to escalate it to Mitsu Headquarters in Cypress CA. I guess I have to wait and see what Mitsu headquarters says. But also it's not a warrenty issue, I paid for the labor and material, why are they being asses about this?

In know many owners toasted them when the cars were still new and the engines at or near stock horsepower. Then there is the guy who went 200K on the stock clutch. It seems to depend a lot on the driver mod.
