Noise after timing belt replacement

Hey everyone, I have a quick question about a noise that just started after I had my timing belt changed. Upshifting and accelerating work just fine. When I accelerate past 3k RPM's (especially in 2nd or 3rd gear) and let off the gas, the car makes this VERY audible grinding noise while it decelerates. The noise goes away if the car drops past ~2.5k RPM's, or when I press the gas petal again. This is something that never happened before the timing belt job, and is really concerning me.

Also as a side note, the shifter seems to go further left than it did before... I'm not entirely sure if this makes sense, but it feels like it has more horizontal (toward the driver mainly) movement. I have searched up and down but can't find anything related to this problem! Please let me know if you need any more information, I would post a video but I don't have anything capable at the moment.

I drive a 2005 White Evo 8 GSR with 70k miles, and I had the work done at a reputable local tuning shop.

To my knowledge they only changed the coolant. I left the shop a voicemail, and will give the car a thorough looking over in the morning. Any other ideas? (Thanks for the quick response BLK EvIL)

-Edit : There are vibrations that i can feel through the gas pedal as well, just enough to be noticeable... these were not there before the timing belt change either.

Did they replaced your balance belt also?

Sounds like your balance shaft could be 180 out! Put the car on TDC, there should be a hole on the block with a 14mm bolt. Unbolt it, and stick a screw driver in it (60mm), if it doesn't go all the way through then it's 180 degree out.

The balance shaft that gets screwed up is driven by the oil pump, not the belt.
