Which clutch? Stock, ACT or Exedy?

hey everybody....

my clutch is slipping and i need to get it replaced on my 05 evo with 86,000 miles on it. I dont want to break the bank on this so i have been going back and forth with replacing it with a stock clutch, exedy stage 1 or act street clutch. or if there is any other clutches i should look at, please let me know. my evo is complete stock and i only have a air intake on it now. i might add a tbe later. this is my daily driver and i want to stay as close to stock pedal feel as i can as i do drive alot in traffic. this will be street use only. let me know some opinions and where to buy said opinions. thanks everybody!

It's really up to you and your goals for the car. I'd probably suggesst the ACT HDSS Clutch.

My exedy stage 1 has a little heavier feel, but it has held 470ft/lbs on the dyno. At the track it was slipping a little.

If all you're ever going to do is a tbe then a stock clutch is going to be totally fine. Are you going to be racing it at all like drag, auto-x etc?

Is your Exedy stage 1 an HD or just a 05803a?

For a nearly stock Evo only seeing street duty, I think you'd be fine with a stocker. My stock clutch is still doing just fine at 56k on the clock, 330wtq, a dozen launches, and auto-x/lapping. I'm the third owner.

I got a HDSS with a Streetlight flywheel about 700 miles ago, replacing the stock clutch. The pedal is a little stiffer, just a little, and the engagement is much more positive. Overall, it feels close to stock. STM has excellent pricing and very inexpensive shipping.

every act ive owned and everyone i know that has had one, complained about the heavy pedal. on my turbo altima, it would straight up wear you out in traffic. i have a spec stage 3 6 puck clutch in my 240 and its holding fine at upwards of 400whp. my grandma could drive my car the pedal pressure is so low. are specs available for the IX's?

I replaced the stock with an ACT and noticed almost no difference in the pedal. Have over 60k on the ACT and only got 30k out of the stock. Go ACT, you won't be disappointed. I DD the car in traffic 45 miles every day, it works fine.

well if u ever plan to your mod car to higher hp/tq levels, go with the exedy or act. I havent personally used the exedy twins but ive heard good things about em. The ACT im runnin is the HDSS with prolite flywheel. If your gonna do the clutch n flywheel, at same time have ur upper and lower clutch lines replaced with Stainless steel lines. Helped mine for sure, ive got 410hp 340 tq, im pushin 30k and countin on it, I dont grandma drive my car either if thats any consideration. there ya go. good luck.

ACT HDSS for the OP would be a great fit.

I just recently replaced my stock clutch and flywheel with an Exedy stage 1 clutch and an exedy lightweight flywheel. Pedal feels only slightly heavier than stock but is barely noticeable. For daily driving any of the above would be fine, but if you plan on doing any racing, don't get the stock one again.
