Power difference between regular T3 housing and T3 GT housing?

IF anyone has made the swap from a standard T3 housing to a GT housing, what were the gains/losses between the two (considering you stayed with the same A/R)? With the outlet of the GT, I would imagine it would have better exhaust flow then the standard housing, but at what point would the standard housing be a restricition? Any help is greatly appreciated.

William

There are reports of ~20 WHP gain and 100-200 RPM faster spool on the GT35 housing of the same A/R.

The problem is fitting them though as the outlet sits about 1" further out.

20-30 whp is about where I was guessing it would be. I have a ETS equal length mani and my turbo will just fit with the standard housing because of the ac compressor. I'm not sure if I'm willing to sacrifice my A/C for 20-30whp, but I guess it just all depends on how much power the car will make with the standard housing.

I think Buschur has a modified GT housing that might work for you.

Won't there be gains just from ditching the a/c? Living in Texas that is a crazy idea for me but for a dedicated drag car it would be worth it. I remember mention of a Honda condenser working with ff kits. I wonder if it would offer enough room.

i really feel like there should not be any gain in power. The standard t31 housing used a 4 bolt out let and the outlet is 2.5 inches. Most people that make o2 housings/downpipes for this weld a 3 inch pipe straight onto the flange for a 2.5 inch t31 4 bolt housing.

now the gt 4 bolt housing or the gt v band housings out let is 3 inches but its still 2,5 inches right after the turbine wheel, but the housing extends about 1-2 inches and flares to 3 inches for the outlet.

ideally i would always run a gt 3 inch vband housing. but if you dont have space for it cuz of ac or you already have a t31 hosuing i would just run it.

i think 20whp sounds very generous. lots of guys make the swap on subarus (not the same, i know) and if you saw a 10whp change, that would be good.

i had a gt housing on my hta86 and there was just no way to fit it and keep ac i was in the same boat as you so i got the housing milled down and a vband clamp welded to it at local shop for $60 alot cheaper then buying a tial housing

awd motorsports manfold and gt housing = tight fit

Sorry just saw this update with the pictures (thanks mrboost05). Now, with the modified gt housing, with would I still see the gains of the original gt as compared to the standard housing? Basically is it worth it too modify a gt housing over just running the standard one. Dave how much power have you made on your modded housing and how much is one?
