Quaife has the prototype front diff built and will be shipping it to us next week. We'll put it in a car and beat on it. If it is all good, they go into production. Once in production, figure about a month after that to get them here.

We should have pricing next week sometime. I expect it to be pretty close to $1100. Even if it is a little more for the list price, I'll do the first batch at a special price if necessary to reward the guys that have committed early. They will build 30 diffs (unless a bunch of additional people sign up in the next couple weeks).

Once I have firm pricing, I will set up a web page with info and pics and instructions on how to give a deposit to get one reserved. Depending on how these sell, the next batch will be about 3-4 months later.

Mike -
I know you're a busy guy but wanted to ask you a couple of quick questions. I'm building my Evo to be a competitive Street Mod autocross car. I don't drag race and don't thrash my car when autocrossing, but I do win. I'm on your list to get the Quaife front LSD and wanted to ask:

1. If you think the factory rear LSD and center viscous coupling will handle autocross in an Evo with ~420whp?, and

2. The car will also be driven on the street. Starting at an autocross, I will always be slipping the clutch at the start rather than dropping it, and shifting fast. It seems like a twin-disk clutch is ideal, but I was wondering about your 3000lb no-name clutch, whether it would be difficult to constantly slip it and harder on the drivetrain when shifting than a twin-disk?

Thanks - Mark

Joe,
Is that possible with those monster tires you have on your car?

Yes, and sadly, those bigger tires cost more money for some reason.

At the rate we are going through tires, I can't afford NOT to buy the Quaife! Of course, now I'm wondering what a center diff would do - maybe a 35/65 split. But first things first. Can't wait to fit the front.

The last few years have really gone to hell... when you work with people from LA and DC that say it's bad, well, you get the picture. Point was that I need my ABS. However, if the Torsen acts as an open unit under decel... all should be well.

I'm incredibly interested, will be checking in on post to see how testing goes and a final price. I can't wait with all these forums for so long on this topic for us to actually be in the process of getting a decent dif. Look forward to purcheseing the product if all goes well. Will most likley add name when final approval arrives. Thanks for the hard work on this project Mike and good luck!

I may be in, but I won't know for another month. And besides the front diff, are there any other center or rear upgrades coming? (I believe you said you sent them all three)

How difficult would one of these be to install? From looking at the shop manual, it looks like we just need to take off the transfer case side cover and the diff should come out. If RRE offers the quaife w/ the bearings pressed on, I'd definitely be interested.

Definitely in, I can put down a deposit anytime, hell even 1.5-2k is worth it for this piece if it solves the weak transfer case problem. =)

Quaife UK missed the shipment of the sample diff to the US along with their regular shipment. They are sending the sample diff later this week. This makes it mid July by the time we have it installed and beat on to be sure it is all good.

I will have the price as soon as the diff gets to Quaife USA.
