It wouldn't hurt to do a boost leak test.

there aren't really any alternative ways to do a boost leak test I assume?

no, its a *****, I don't have easy access to an air compressor either. Not something one has on the reg. hit up just about any mechanic, they should have a boost leak tester.

Boost leak tester is easy enough to make with cheap bits available at Home Despot. Even I fabbed one up. So, we know it is ubber simple.

There is a how to video on the forum somewhere. Or, some instructions with pics that I followed. I don't remember just now though.

Don't any of your neighbors have a compressor, hose and gauge?

Couldn't you do it with a bike pump? I've never tried but it's not a lot of air.

I had a similar issue with my car and thought the turbo might be going, well, it turned out the egr hose had popped off. If this is the case there is no clamp to hold down the hose so I ended up using a zip tie, hopefully it doesn't pop off again. I hope this helps, good luck.

That EGR hose seems to be a common culprit to pop off, Just pick a hose and follow where it goes and make sure it's hooked up and check for chaffing, and do the same with every hose.

You can use a small electric bicycle tire pump, I'm sure a bike hand pump would work, it would just suck to do it on your own if theres a leak since youll loose pressure quick then have to look around before it goes away so 2 people would be best. Another alternative is to use a smoke machine, some people like using it but it will deff find leaks but I would rather use a boost leak tester but using a smoke tester would help on those leaks you can hear but cant locate. But if you dont have an air compressor, I doubt you would have a smoke machine but just throwing it out there if you happen to have one for halloween decorations or something.

Also if you know youre not going to need to take the lines again, to help seal and prevent them from coming off is to heat the end with a lighter or mini torch, it will get sticky and glue itself to the nipples. I'm talking about the gray lines, I dont know if it will work on aftermarket lines but I noticed the shop that worked on my car when the previous owner had it, they did that and none of the lines ever popped off at 30+ psi with No zipties or clamps

Look, buy a MBC install it and then boost leak test. A air compressor is like 4o bux at Home depot and the kit to make the BLT is like 10 bux.. 2.5 rubber coupler a PVC pipe cap and a bike air nozzle.

Seriously, buy a air compressor! I use mine at least 3x a week. I got the huge one from Sears put in my basement and plumbed into my garage. A small one is like $150 or less. On CL it's like $50.

Once I have an actual house with a garage an air compressor is definitely on my list. The car seems fine now, maybe I was just overreacting and the ecu was just trying to figure itself out. I have a bunch of lame worm clamps on my couplers so I'm going to upgrade to all new couplers and t-bolt clamps just for kicks.
