I think the biggest gains over most of the powerband come from Tomei procam 270 and GSC S2R. Both are high lift cams, and hard to get a hold of though. Lots of great options already listed above.

If I could go back I would have built my motor first not upgrade my turbo!

And I have S2 cams and they are great, and I was told they have made over 700hp with these cams

A friend has a "bolt on" 06' that made 411whp on 93. He uses the S2's and I love his car as the car is very responsive throughout the RPM range, as well as keeping great drivability.

That was a bunch of IX cams that broke and was sourced to a batch issue which between that and a redesign of the fillet hasnt been an. The FPs didnt break but are sourced to Comp who did have one or 2.

We have made 730whp on a 3586 and 9:1 2.0L with S2s, 776 on an 11:1 2.0L with a FS635 and S2s, and 1014 on a 10:1 2.0L with a 42R on S2s.

I would upgrade cams to something other than stock as long as it meets a specific goal. S1s for road racing and best response. S2s for more top end without the low end losses (not real gains always down low like the S1s) or S3s for max top end on larger turbos or at least larger motors.

I had S2's on my FP Black setup (other option was FP4R's) and I had a 4500ish rpm power band, I believe I had peak torque around 4600rpm and my red line was just about at 8550. Great balance between S1's and S3's for a do it all cam.

So your saying the s1's are better for like lower spool up and track days and road racing as opposed to s2's? If im understanding correctly.

thanks

I agree if your looking for more power up top

What I have noticed (I had accidentally posted on Luke's computer) is that an Evo IX with S1s will pick up low end over stock. S2s dont lose any torque over stock cams down low but they dont gain as much until 5k or so and then take off in comparison to the S1.

Road racing also depends on the track to some extent because if you can keep it revved out longer the car isnt really using the lower rpm range. If its tight and technical or has some really good chicanes there is the possibility that the low end power is more important coming out of the corner than making power another 500rpm up top.

Then there is fuel. E85 where you can run a larger spike down low and the boost tapers out the top no matter what, has more torque lower, top end still, and you wind up with the best of both.

Here is an example of a stock IX turbo with S1s that every mod was meant for road racing (stock cams to S1s)-

I will look and see if I have a IX with S2s at a comparable boost level on E85. I have my car but it was at 31psi compared to Jason's.
