Well if you don't want to change springs and retainers I would say HKS. You pay out the *** and they perform just as good as stock IX cams but with a little more lift. Just about any other cam you will have to change springs and retainers to be safe. I mean you don't have to but I would highly suggest it. As for cams that I have used in the past, I currently have GSC S2 cams and I love them. I have also used Kelfords, HKS as well.

S1s for response in a track or JUST street application.
S2s for great top end, moderate lower rpm gains and definitely geared more towards using a larger turbo in the future. If you do these save some hassle and do springs at the same time.

isnt it possible to run the gsc s2's on stock valvetrain as long as you stay to stock rev limit?

It is possible but I dont advise it. If I have to come out and say NO, then well...NO.

I've been running the S2's for the past month on my VIII without the springs. I LOVE them! I said I wouldn't rev it past 7500 RPM, but someone on here said that would be fine until I felt the need to rev higher. Now I want to rev higher. If I had to do over, I'd do the springs as well as a head gasket and studs.

hey aaron for the gsc s2 cams would just doing the beehive springs be fine or would you recommend doing the retainers as well? and are these cams good for 9 stock turbo?

I suggest the springs and retainers these days. Some of it depends on the mileage of the motor. I question how well the retainer by itself lasts over an extended period of time.

I agree Aaron, why take the chance on floating a valve on stock valvetrain. I mean sure the evo springs are alot better then the dsm springs most of us had previously, but going from a dsm to an evo you realize that you tend to rev higher when you drive. I just think it is added insurance to make sure things stay tight in there and no worrys if you go past stock rev limit.

Def do the springs and retainers. your already there do it all at once and at the same time. will save you money in the longrun especailly if you get valve float etc. Only a little more but for piece of mind and full benefit of the cam i say do the springs and retainers too.

Id say FP4R as that is what im going to be running but im building a pure drag car, so id agree with aaron and say S1's or S2's depending on your goals.
