Evo 8 4g64 timing

Heres the story, bought my evo used with a built bottom end, the previous owner put the head on, cams, etc. when he timed it, he used the 4g63 belt but it was a tooth short and the car kept going in and out of timing. I had a new timing job done and when i look at the cam gears, they line up TDC and pistons are TDC, BUT, the crank pulley mark is 9 degrees or so off.. The car is not making the power it should be on the dyno and seeing weird knock, could it be an issue of the crank pulley being off?

i been through this crap....it can be confusing....what you need to do is line up the crank and then u have to line up the "inner tdc marks" on your cam gear to the marks on the rocker cover.....ignore the outer marks on the cam gear

Well ur cam gears should have 2 tdc marks on them, one on the inner part of the gear with +/- 10* and the same on the outer part of the gear, correct? Just ignore the outer marks and line up the inner tdc mark to the rocker cover mark......simple as that bud

Gotcha, so line the crank up tdc the simply manually find tdc with the pistons and line up the inner ones based on that..

when i done my 4g64 build i had to find TRUE tdc with a dti gauage as the bottom pulley was about 2 degrees out.

I was lucky when i done mine though as hadnt set the cams up yet so the cam wheels had no advance or retard on them.

Then once i was happy with the timing i then set about timing the cams to there correct lift at or before TDC

evoyrrah: could post up a picture on what you mean by these marks on the inner and outer ? What cam gears are you using? Is the cam gears post to be at 3.75 retarded sence the 2.4 block height is higher? Once you have it at 3.75 and you line it up it should be tdc. Right?

Well, as of now, my crank pulley is 9 degrees out, so Im having my timing redone tomorrow at Billet Design in Pompano Beach and getting a new tune etc.
