Rattle/buzz from back of intake or under. 4g63 w/ video
I have tried searching to no avail. I hooked up an oil filter relocator in which the lines were already in my engine bay. It appears that these ss braided lines had a leak, which is why they were not being used. Once under pressure the oil started spewing in my engine bay and when I got about 3 mins away I stopped at the store and I check my oil to see where it was on the min/max lines, the dip stick was dry. I thought I must have left my oil cap loose so I put 4 qt in drove about 3 mins to my house, dry again, put another 2 qt in and drove back 3 mins to the lift I use to disconnect these line and put the oil filter in stock spot. I put it how it goes and fill it up, it runs fine. Park it for 45 mins then drive it a few mins to eat and drive back. During this trip, the music was on, so if there was a noise, didn't hear it. I am pulling in to park and the oil light comes on. I check my oil and its fine. I start it up and it starts knocking really bad, was not rod knock. Was coming from intake by #2 and #3 injectors or under. The next day while I was driving to the shop to work on it, the sound, I believe changed, changed to a buzzing rattle that can be heard in the video. I believe these sounds were different, if anything the first rattle was a lot louder. I removed the valve cover and inspected all the springs and valves as much as I could without taking the head or cams off. The only thing abnormal was a cooling hole that looked quite enlarged and jagged, and was not consistent with the other cooling holes.
Short of the story : Car boosts fine, no misfires, the engine itself sounds fine, just this rattle/whine is overlying. The sound appears to be coming from the back of the intake by the throttle body area or under that. Sounds like something is loose. The intake is vibrating quite a bit and the valve cover is vibrating too on the intake side, and the exhaust side has very litte vibrating. My best opinion is a broken lash adjuster. Here is the video.
