Is the turbo oil feed from the head pressurised??

Hi all just after a little advice to find out weather the factory turbo oil feed from the head is pressurised, even if it's a small amount or is it just another drain point from the head so to speak??

Just I have my gt30 turbo and have purchased the correct oil supply line and it come with a restrictive and it only has a very small hole in it for the oil to flow through I would say no bigger than 2mm would you say this is right??

Thanks

Craig

If it's a ball bearing turbo, it'll be fine.

its pressurized hence the restrictor as bb turbos dont need pressure to float the shaft like std type journal bearing

Pressure at the head is a lot less then at the oil filter housing. I would say, a turbo fed from the head does not need a restrictor. (educated guess)

BUT, I would much rather feed it from the OFH with a restrictor and inline filter. FP has a nice all in one unit.

Save yourself several hundred dollars from buying an FP piece and run it from the stock location with the restrictor and an inline filter and you'll be good to go, same setup I have.

todd6027 has it right. you only need real pressure for journal bearing/non-ball bearinged stock body turbos. i believe robert at fp said mitsu recommends a minimum of 43psi. i know the info is on the fp site.

if you run full head pressure(non-restricted) though a ball bearing turbo you'll push seals

Yes the head is pressurized. I have seen about 60psi of oil pressure at the head.

Just run it to the stock location and you'll be fine since it has restrictor in it.

Some really helpfull info here people thanks very much, the user of the turbo before me didn't have a restrictor they just used the factory banjo bolt setup so I have to hope the seals are good. Will keep the setup I have which is stock oil feed with restrictor at the turbo.

Thanks again for all the help

I have run BB turbos from the head for years without restrictor. No issues. The restrictors were originally designed for oil pump housing where oil pressure can exceed 100psi when cold. FP sells different size restrictors depending on where the line will be run from. Dont quote me on sizes but I think they are .080 at oil housing and 1.20 from head.

Yea I think that aswell, not something I have seen discussed about the oil pressure from the feed to the turbo so figured I would ask the question.

To the people who have run non restricted feeds to there BB turbos with no probs that's good to hear as I don't know how long mine was previously run for with no restrictor

Bringing an old thread back to life! I am replacing my stock evo9 turbo with a pte 5858 journal bearing can I use the stock feed out of the head or should I tape in to somewhere else? My friend swore he read somewhere that is a bad source to pull the feed from??? thanks in advance!
