Get a flashlight and just look at the hoses - it should be very easy to see IF you have a leak - and If so where it is comming from

No antifreeze in the oil, didn't lose power, I just backed off as soon as I saw the smoke. I'm going to check the hoses tomorrow morning.

Autozone and pressurize the cooling system (or with a bicycle pump and the overflow hose) and check for where the air is coming from. bummer

or just look for the leak, shouldn't be too hard to find. if you heard a pop, i doubt its the head gasket. plus it sounds like you said the smoke was coming outta the engine bay, not right outta the muffler. If it was a head gasket, it'd be strictly coming out of the muffler. could be a radiator hose, or even just one of the smaller hoses that carry coolant

Sounds like antifreeze to me, I bet the white overflow tank was high and the cap popped up a little dumping AF all over the place. What does the motor smell like? Is it sweet smelling? I know antifreeze problems and overheating well I used to have a Rx-7

Yeah, the white smoke was pouring out from the engine bay... almost like it overheated, I couldn't see ****, left the hood open and got back in the car and let it blow off. Motor smelled kinda sweet, it didn't reek. OK, let's check the hoses

In that case, it is not the head gasket. As me612 said, the smoke would be confined to the exhaust. Plus I believe earlier you said you didn't loose any power, which is definitely not indicative of a blown head gasket.

Thanks guys for your help.

Took a look, looks like a busted coolant hose, so I guess I dodged a bullet. You can't help but panic when smoke starts pouring out of your 6-week old car.

Owned a Jetta, a Z and an S2000, this is the first to ever give me any kind of trouble. Guess I've been lucky up til now

Did you remove the radiator hose to install the Boost controller? I had blown off a hose on my race car twice.. once because of the clamp wasn't tight enough.. the second time because it had a HUGE air pocket in the upper portion of the engine and it was having trouble keeping the engine cool..

I let Turbotrix install the AVCR.

Anyway, the Evolution is in the shop now, so we'll see what's going on.

Update:

Dealer tells me that the 'freeze-out' plug popped off, explaining the coolant leak. I don't know how or why this happened. He explained it may be a defect from the factory.
