Installing a shortblock?

I was wondering for those that have done it personally how difficult it is to install a preassembled shortblock. I am not a mechanic but definately know how to work with my hands and tools. Is their any right up on installing one?

Pulling the motor and installing the motor isn't to hard IMO. Assembling a short block is a pretty involved job.

Having a hydraulic hoist helps and two jacks. I lowered the engine and tranny down in from the top. You will need two people to do the install. Do you have the engine out already?

You still need to actually assemble the motor when you get the short block. Its pretty involved. Not sure what kind of mechanical abilities you have, but i would consider this 9 on -scale of 1-10

No engine is together. I wanted to buy a 4g64 and have it built. Then install my head onto it and drop it in.

Sorry to say not really for beginners. But anyone can do it with lots of patience and service manuals. But you have to read it step by step.

If its really a short block you will need some special tools also.

doing a 4g64 complicates things a little more. id research into it a lot before attempting. setting the timing is also pretty tricky on those

Timing also has to be done with adjustable cam gears

You should technically be using a degree wheel to set the timing, but no one seems to do that

Reason people don't is most cams now days do not have to be degreed to give top performance. If any of you have time look on AMS's website about there cam test they go over all that it all this technical mombo jumbo that half of us prob don't understand. All in all good read. Than and degree wheel won't fit while motor is in the car.
