Anything to address while taking the motor out?

Thinking about a paint job....

If one was to remove the longblock from their evo to paint the engine bay, is there anything that should be addressed due to the ease of install while the longblock is out/the complication of install once the block goes back in?

I'm very mechanically inclined but wouldn't want to have a 'doh!' moment and realize after all was said and done that I should have made my life easier and done it while everything was out....

Including but not limited to wiring, bushings, mounts, relocating parts, etc.....

Was thinking about a front sway bar, but I'm not even sure that I'm looking to modify the sways....

Like I said, I can think of the usual suspects but want some opinions so that I don't forget anything

I am considering pulling my motor, and the common response tends to be to change the timing belt while its out. Since its a maintenance service, cheap, and easy to do when out.

I wouldn't change the front sway unless you have a specific handling/balance goal in mind. The suspension gurus tend to not recommend that, because over stiffing the front over the back could induce more understeer.

Otherwise like barneyb said. Clutch.

Clutch and 60k are taken care of.

How about anything on the subframe? Whiteline precision steering kit or anything like that?

Would love a chasebays harness, but I don't think thats happening

Front swaybar, if you want one, now would be the time to do it. You might start a thread on the suspension subforum and see what the people there suggest.

Wire tucks can get super complicated real fast, if your soul purpose of dropping the entire motor to paint the engine bay I'd say have more reasons, like painting the engine bay, possible wire tuck, changing or upgrading water pump/oil pump, balance shaft delete, egr removal and so on and son on, while the engine is out there are so many things that can be done that would be super easy vs the engine being back in the car and now your thinking of doing a few upgrades. Hope this helps and trust me it's never as easy as your thinking, whatever bolts u take off label them in a ziplock bag, and I mean date time day and where the bolts go back to. I haven't even talked about all the fluids you'll have to drain and refill, like I said good luck, I had small plans to and a year later my car still isn't done.

The car has a minor wire tuck already. Sensors on the I/M have been lengthened to go underneath and the rest has had a lot of cleanup. Not sure I have the dedication or time to do a full engine harness at the moment and like you said, they get complicated FAST.

well since your pulling your engine i noticed a clutch pedal improvement when i went with SS upper and lower clutch lines. Id say do those and some polyurethane motor mounts, that way your engine dont rock and your cars clutch pedal doesnt get spongy on beaten up attempts. Clutch if its older then 20k just for piece of mind. Check all your front end suspension and steering components for play, torn boots etc... other then that depending on your mods, or what your end goals are vs money you have to spend. Other things would be worth it at the same time. How many miles on your car?

anarchy99 - Did you do the balances haft delete on a built motor (I saw your build thread) or was this a different motor? I have been told not to do that on a stock internals motors by some.
