Dynatek - ARC-2

Hi Guys,
what do you think about this product for our Evo?

Lastly, what is this 2 features mean?
  • Built in launch limiter, works from 2000-11900 RPM
  • Built in fixed timing retard function

Seems like a not sot so standalone ECU. The current standalone and ECUFlash options seems to do alot of this already.

These are used heavily in the DSM world. IMO I think it's one of the best ignition systems for our cars, better than the MSD or AEM. I never used the launch limiter as that has always been done with ECU tuning.

But the only reason that I would get one of those is if you are having ignition break up problems. I ran into that problem on a gapped down plug at 23psi on a 67mm turbo with pump and meth. I got the ARC II and was able to keep the factory gap and never had a problem afterwards even up to 40+ psi (converted to e85).

The Arc-2 just has two little knobs on the side to adjust both the timing retard (which has a wired input, such as the emergency brake for loading up the car before launching) and launch rpm. Here is a pic of the side.

I hated my arc2. I had issues with misfiring all the time. I would definately recommend a spoolinup cop any day of the week having used both. Cdi just isnt great for a street car. The spark is too short and under lean conditions it can miss the fuel because it is a very high energy short duration spark. The restrike should help but i hated mine and threw it away.

Btw, is the launch limiter feature is the same as launch control?

I'm not sure as I've never used it for that, but only read about it. The original blue arc-2 didn't have adjustable retard and it was at a fixed 10 degress. So maybe somewhere around there? I hear that the launch control of this is preferred over the ecu as this is an ignition cut vs a fuel cut from the ecu.

I would rather use a spoolin up c.o.p. kit (or similar) to solve any ignition issues and tuning for the rev limiter and launch control,since all of that including the ignition retard can be done with ecuflash,and does not involve the hassle of another box to mess with,but that's just me,i like to simplify things.
