272/272 Camshafts
272/272 Camshafts
I am currently in the middle of my build (3g eclipse w/evo 8 head + garrett gt35r)i finally purchased my camshafts, valves, valve springs and retainers from.............................. Brian Crower, i was UNaware they weren't a good, reliable company. i spent $450 on the 272/272 cams and around 400 for the valve/valve springs and retainers.
i talked to one of my buddies at horsepowerfreaks and he'll return everything as long as i'm just exchanging it for something else(no restocking fee). so with that being said. what IS a reliable camshaft company? i've done all the research i can on this and pretty much it comes down to Cosworth, Kleford, HKS, and GSC. money is no issue for this build i just want everything top notch and also reliable, this is going to be a Daily Driver < possibly. but at least a every weekend on the street; car. i'm going with the 272/272 set up but i can't seem to find which Camshaft manufacture is better out of the ones listed. also as for springs and retainers, i was going to go with Bee-mads?.. from what i hear they are top of the line. can someone please help me out with this? My build is at a stand still now because i realized i f*cked up buying BC.
Thanks,
Much appreciated!
Id go with the GSC S2s (they are slightly bigger - 274s) or Kelford 272s! By far the best cams i have seen in my friends car, my personal car and just on the threads - never here but good things about either.
There is a cam test floating around on here. You could look at the dyno graphs and see which would be better for your needs.
I have always been a fan of the Kigglys beehive. Super smart guy and runs what he builds.

are the kiggley beehives the same as the Bee-mads??l

and okay thanks for the info i'll go with the Kelford 272's then.
so i'm guessing it's true BC is junk?
btw i am keeping the bc stainless steel intake/exhaust Valves, just because valves are valves, stainless steel is the best you can really get (standard size, not oversized) but i figured i'd actually buy "real" camshafts/springs/retainers!
i feel like such a dumb *** that i went and spent $900 on bc stuff, i was just in a hurry to get this build together, but i've realized it's going to take alot longer than i thought.

GSC S2s, and Buschur BF 272s are the 2 cam choices I would recommend. As for valve springs, you can't go wrong with the Kiggly's! Some other good choices would be the GSC beehives, or a set of Supertechs...
need way more information before we can recommend a cam for you. build, engine specs, displacement, track/street? DD ? most importantly, intended usage and future goals for the car?
overall, unless you are going dyno queen or drag car, the S2's will be more than enough cam for anything from stock to hta3596. Dont know much about the BF but the reviews look pretty solid. STM has some cams that are sweet you may want to check out. Kelfords are good, pretty mild 272 so not hard on your valvetrain but make good mid range power and dont drop off too much.
lots of options, just need to decide which is best for your usage.
for the record, i still have stock turbo, gsc S2s, springs/retainers/seats. idle is great, very minimal loss in low end power, and big pick up in power up top. turbo dies out, cams want to keep pulling. very happy with my purchase, would choose the same cam if i did it over again.

Wiseco custom 9:1 compression pistons (evo 8 head swap on 2.4l eclipse gives you a 9.8:1 compression ratio) so i had to get custom made pistons that will GIVE me a 9:1 with the evo 8 head specs with my 4g64 block specs.

as for the 65mm throttle body for the evo 8 i have no clue, i know godspeed is junk, they're a replica of Boomba. however boomba doesn't offer a 65mm TB only a 75mm which is too big.
