When installing the ARP head bolts, is there an aftermarket gasket?

Does anyone make a better gasket than the stock one. Also what would be a fair price to install the new head bolts. I am told it is a lot of work and they want around $400- $500 to install. Thanks

First of all, you don't need a better gasket, the Evo comes with a Mitsu metal one. Second of all, you can do the head studs yourself, and if done correctly you don't even have to remove the head. I'd do a little research first (of course) but if you feel you can't tackle the wrenching yourself, a least save money and keep the stock gasket.

I believe that AMS has does this so they would have better information on how to do it. I would like to know too.

This is the HKS Metal Head Gasket, this one is 1.2mm but it does come in the standard 1.0mm.

No it is not a must but it is a very good Idea on a high boost daily driven car. Don't get me wrong, the 4g63 engine is a very well built but if you have it appart you might as well add a 110 dollar part that could be vital.

I have heard people of installing headstuds different ways, I don't know which would be better. I have not done this yet but I do want to research the way that AMS did it without removing the Head from what I have heard. One bolt at a time working from the center to the end carfully.

If you remove the head I believe that you have to replace the metal gaskit becuase of the fit.

Not a must but a very good idea, while your in there installing cams, might as well do ARP's. Benefit is longevity of the engine. If you're doing cams, chances are you've done quite a few other things as well. With enough hp, or if you run more than 23-24psi, the stock bolts will stretch. It's a safety measure more than anything else. When I do cams I am doing ARP head studs and conrod bolts.

The stock head gasket is a champ in our book, our car has a new stock one since we did the head buildup and it holds 551whp just peachy. As far as putting in head studs goes, you do not have to replace the head gasket. All you have to do is pull the valve cover to get to the studs, you also do not have to pull out the cams to do the studs.

We recommend head studs when you do the cams just out of the convenience of already being in there, we also recommend them to anyone looking to run over 21 lbs of boost to combat the possibility of a blown head gasket.

well all i plan to have are a ecu management ( on the works ) turbo back , FMIC and FMICP , cams 264/272 . Later on i plan to upgrade to a larger turbo (or to see what options i have ) right now my goal on a stock turbo is to achieve 350whp on 91 ( to see if thats possible )
I dont mind the 100 dollars on the ARP , but what gets me if the head needs to be remove ?? . Thats one thing i dont want to have to remove the head if its not needed or to be removed at all. Thats my big concern went doing this upgrade for the cams ...
