5th gear vibe

So picked up the evo last night and everything looks good with one issue. In Fifth gear from about 2200-3500 rpms i am getting a mild vibration in the car. It goes away when accelerating and decelerating and only seems to do it in 5th gear. I am hoping its only a transmission mount or something like that but any advice would be welcome.

The early cars do this. I have an early car so guess what? Anyway it didn't do it when new so the vibration has something to do with miles accumulated. Mine has been this way for about 50k or so and it doesn't seem to be getting worse.

You will find other posts on this if you search.

Its coming from the front and you can feel it in the seat and wheel. Its been doing it for at least 10K.

And yes I have done a little searching on here. One thread seemed to direct me towards compressor surge and another to transmission issues. Its just strange since it doesn’t do it under load or under deceleration. It goes away at higher speeds also above 70 mph

Same here except my car's vibration doesn't seem to have a location or source. It feels like the entire car is vibrating. I remember reading that Mitsu made some changes to the car that involved the clutch and flywheel. I dunno if this was to fix this vibration or the p0300 code problem. Maybe the two are related.

I has this issue around 80K. It was a vibration in the transmission. Sometimes felt like a misfire. Im not sure if the knock sensor was picking up the vibration or not. I had the transmission rebuilt from Jacks transmissions. He installed tapered bearings instead of the stock torrington bearings. Problem was solved.

How much did the rebuild run you.

Here is the site. http://www.jackstransmissions.com/co...ium-hd-rebuild

I think I paid 1400 for the built I wanted. This was after I was refunded the core charge. I had the evo 9 first gear and input shaft installed with the tapered bearings. Im sure the prices have changed since then. Mine was done about 3 years ago. I made 450TQ and tracked it a few times with no problems. Make sure that your clutch is adjusted properly or you will burn up syncros.

You will need to call them for a custom order and rebuild. I had them send me a trans first so I could do the swap.

If there is damage to the trans, this will be deducted from the deposit.

My input shaft was damaged from the worn bearing.
