New or Used Spoolin' Up COP?

So, I'm going to pick one of these up, but before I drop $420 on a brand new unit I have to ask:

What's the benefit of new over used?

Discuss.

If cash is not tight I'd get new. If it is, get used.

Why?

You've got to have a reason if you want to convince me.

I purchased my car used because you get ****ed on a new car. Most people want a new car because they think that a used car is 'tainted' or some ****.

Coils eventually wear out. Thus used will have a shorter lifespan, not that it will be an issue for most. So again, if you are in a squeeze for $$$ buy used, if you aren't get new coils *shrug*.

at one point Matt had said that used kits can't be hid whereas the new could be hid under the coil cover
not sure if he sourced used that can now hide

I picked up a new kit.

I'd rather have one I don't have to worry about.

I believe that's been resolved, and even the used can go under the spark plug cover now.

Having said that, the benefits of going new vs used are universally applicable. Gently used can save you some $$. Brand new offers more peace of mind.

I went used, and my used kit fit under the stock cover. Reason is, imo the slightly used will still be just fine. Coils will wear out over time, but even at 60k miles they should still fire within spec. Within spec should be enough to give you enough KV for your evos ignition. The Denso coils Spoolinup uses are really high quality, I have seen a used denso coil perform better than a new off brand coil.

Spoolinup tests each coil so you will have peace of mind that your getting a good coil. I am confident with used coils since I have personally seen quite a few 100K+ mile cars with the original denso coils still operating just great. If one of your used coils goes bad you can just purchase a new coil individually at that time anyhow. FWIW, a new coil can go bad just as easily as a used one.
