EVO VIII shifting issues. Need advice on a few things!!!

Hey everyone,

My name is Carla, I have an 05 EVO with ~33k on it. I recently had ACD issues and it was covered under my warranty so I had it taken care of at my local Mitsu dealership. While it was there, I had the guy service my driveline. Ever since then, ~ 2 weeks ago I have had so much difficulty getting the car in gear in the morning or just in general unless Im driving it. Also, it doesnt grind, but getting into 3rd gear is NOT the smoothest right now. I'm nervous to keep driving it , it is my daily driver and my only means of transportation and I want to avoid any possible issue.
Also, ever since I have owned the car, (about a month and a half now) first gear is always rough when it comes to the clutch. It bogs and seems as if it is going to stall. I know that I can adjust the clutch pedal, do you think that that could be the reasoning for that?
Do you think possibly the fluid in the transmission was something other than factory fluid ? Such as like a performance oil or something and now that there is something different in there it is acting like this?
Last question, I run GM Synchro Mesh in my VR4, and I LOVE it. Any experience with that ? How does that work in our trans?

Thanks everyone so much in advance!

Carla

I would first check your cables where they connect to the transmission to make sure they aren't being bound up on something, or hanging up. As far as first being rough, I've found mine to be the same, but I just tap the gas a little more and roll the clutch out a little slower and it seems to go fine for me. You can try to adjust the pedal, but if you push the clutch all the way in and it's releasing the clutch fully, then adjusting it won't really do much. Also where is your engagement point on the clutch? Is it High or Low? And as far as GM synchromesh in the transmissions, I use penzoil, and it's flawless. But I've never ran the GM SM in it so I don't know if it's good for it or not, sorry

Thanks. I know about tapping the gas a little more, it just doesnt feel right to me for some reason. There is nothing blocking the cables, I checked. Im wondering if my the fluid is just under spec? Maybe underfilled causing it to shift like this

Do you have aftermarket underhood shifter bushings? I've had brass shifter bushings in before. In the winter, I've had them seize up due to salt and gunk getting in there. A good cleaning with some anti-seize sorted me out. I've since switched to poly shifter bushings.

If this has just started happening since it was serviced at the dealership, I would bring it back to them and explain the issues. They should look at it for free and if it something caused by their work, they should fix it for free too.

IMO, I don't think they fluid would be causing your issues. Sounds like something mechanical. If you find out anything about the synchromesh let me know. My 5th gear grinds and have been looking for something that may help.
