What is considered too light of flywheel for DD?

Hi all. So I finally got my Comp clutch and am waiting on my flywheel. I ordered the comp clutch flywheel 2-645-STU. Heard it weight just over 11 lbs.

What is considered to light of a flywheel for a daily driver. Car makes 320 whp.

I was told the flywheel will be fine and no prob with check engine lights. I was going to get a new OEM one but couldnt fine one less than 400.00.

I was also told by a known performance shop that they dont recommend resurfacing OEM flywheels cause they tend to warp.

thanks in advance.

I've never heard of a flywheel being to light. The lighter the better( less weight for your crank to have to throw around).

I don't have a lightened flywheel installed (resurfaced OEM - no problem/warpage there!) but others on here have said their lightened flywheel is not as smooth compared to the OEM unit.

Maybe others can chime in.

lighter flywheels allow for quicker revving, but your car will have a little more trouble getting off the line. I have a lightened flywheel that weighs in at 10.7 lbs with a ACT XTSS. I didn't notice much of a difference but the car is smooth. the car isnt as smooth from a stop as the stock clutch. But overall, I like it.

I have a friend who resurfaced a stock flywheel and it was not nice to break in. and I have another friend who resurfaced stock flywheel and he had no problems.

So, overall, I would say that if you can afford a flywheel, then go for it. But I honestly haven't noticed much of a difference.

Good luck

Stock (new or resurfaced) and ACT Streetlite are about the same weight (~13.5lbs) and are usually recommend for DD applications. Personally, I wouldn't run a lighter flywheel on the street. There's virtually no real benefit and the drivability suffers. Good luck.

i have an act prolite flywheel and hdss on mine, other then stop n go traffic itll wanna buck sometimes, its all in the clutch pedal modulation to help with that. But I like mine it revs a lot faster compared to stock flywheel. Any time you reduce sprung weight ie reduce the amount of weight to turn a part, it makes a significant difference.
