Thanks for info. I'm going to research it now. Is that 750 to upgrade or just purchase complete turbo off the shelf?

They used to stock limited numbers of cores. Call them to find out.

I'm coming from Subaru platform so I have lots to learn.
Not trying to tell you what to do, but having a tuner tune your evo is probably the best thing to do, for the 200-300 bucks it'll cost, the performance some of these tuners get out of them is well worth the money

Same guy that tuned my RSTI will be tuning/checking current tune.
He is local and is very reputable in subaru community. I will start learning finally and monitor/fine tune if need be. I don't think that tunes are ever 100% perfect as far as afr and such, so I might dial those in precisely, especially if going e85.

but I do agree with you. right now i'll be getting all the tools needed to do open source and start logging, also plan onto lowering boost by 2-3psi.

Its $750 to purchase off the shelf. FP sends you the chara/cold side and all you have to do is install the hotside off your evo 8 turbo. we had to use the evo 9 j-pipe and wastegate actuator on my 71hta setup. i dynoed at 380hp/390tq(28-29psi) on an E85 tune from KevinD at EvoDynamics. he did a great job.

^ wouldn't evo 9 or fp white make same numbers on e85 at that much boost?

how does it feel comparing to stock turbo on street? does it feel more laggy or about the same?

hard to search them because it has to be 3 characters when searching. I think I'll go with 71hta
thanks for the pointer. It will take me a month or two (i wanna make sure everything is solid on the car first)

Possibly, the 71hta should outflow the 9 and white from what FP told me but i dont have any experience with those two turbos. i went from the stock evo 8 turbo straight to the 71hta. the dyno tune was on a mustang dyno and during the tune we had issues with the stock 9 bov holding boost. it doesn't feel laggy at all. if i had better bolt on i'm sure we could have squeezed more out of the turbo. there are a couple of threads regarding this turbo floating around.

no idea about 71hta, but if you were going with a new 9 vs new white from fp i think i'd go with the white , it's only 100 more.

as for the tune, i'd really go with someone who's specialized in evos..

The HTA 71 is $925 shipped, if you get it with the 84mm comp cover, you can just throw your 9.8 VIII hotside on it, then all you need is a evo 9 WGA, you can find used ones on this site for real cheap.

AMS is 2-3hrs away from me but I don't want to go to them.

I'd buy 9 used. So as far as power curve for street use 71 feels similar to 8? I just don't want something that's too laggy or dangerous on stock block.

I wonder how much a tune is from shops near me. Think buschur is 4hrs away.

These cars can handle like 500 - 550 whp on the stock block, drivetrain, minus the clutch as long as your not a crazy sob and know how to drive
