Last fall i Totaled my 2003 evo8

while the insurance was being worked out i picked up a 93 TSI (with only 64k on the dial!)

The evo was totaled due to nearly 100% cosmetic damage

My question is..

How hard would it be to mount the evo engine/tranny & drive train (axles and all) to the Tallons body

first problem i see : the engines are mounted oppisite from eachother so engine mounts will have to be Fabbed, but with what degree of precision?
Im not sure if the trannys will line up either but as far as i can tell they will (posible fabercation of mount points there as well)

The wheel base seems to be shorter, so i'll have to shorten the drive shaft

So aside from those bits of custom work, does this project seem doable?

(I have a fully equiped garage to work at, but not too much extensive knowlege myself, luckly i have a lot of friends who know a few things & are willing to help)

how bout pulling all the internals from the evo engine and moddifying them for the TSi... I remember hearing something from a DSM forum that the evo is 6 bolt and the 1G eclipse and TSi are 4 bolt, i think it has something to do w/ the rear end...

if i swaped the axles /transfer case ect.. shouldnt be aproblem, Im just wondering if i can squeeze it all in there

I like the evo's 50/50 power plit and stronger transmission also, would be nice to stick all of that in a hatch back

probably gonna be a lot of work if you ask me, and plus the engine swap wouldn't be legal i think... cuz you can only do engine swaps for same "class/model" vehicles.

definatly would not be cost effective...just get another evo. also first gen DSM's were 6 bolt and 2nd gen DSM's were 7 bolt. (or vice versa i'm too shot to remember correctly) it has to do with the crank bolts for the flywheel. both had their problems tho i believe the 2nd gen had the crank walk issue. i'm probably all backwards on this info..didn't get any sleep last night...but its almost correct hehehe.

anyway...its not just the engine/tranny/and drivetrain you have to replace....its basically everything in the engine bay..and all the wiring i believe...its no fun.

2nd gen had the crank walk issue, I think first gen is a 6 bolt, but im not positive.

I think it would be fun to have a Tevo, but You may be right,,, a bit labor intensive.

I'm new to DSM'ng, maybe i'll just keep the talon it came with full 3" exhaust, 255 wal fuel pump, 660CC injectors SAFC gages ported big 16G and ported manifold, Supra SMIC & a few other toys...

some suspension and swaybars tossed in there and i'll have a great AUTOX car

To bad i have this stupid CWEST FULL BODY KIT sitting in my living room,, I guess that will go up on ebay ;(

u should just make a tube frame/chassis with the same specs as the evo and bolt everything in the correct place and you will have a lightweight AWD buggy... u have all the wiring so makeing the tube frame/chassis will be the hardest part...

The 2G has the crankwalk issue and a 7 bolt the 1G has a 6 bolt motor.

You guys are right... 6-bolt is from the 1G, 7-bolt is from the late 1G and 2G DSMs. The 7-bolts were the crankwalkers.

Swapping the EVO VIII drivetrain into a 1G DSM would be really difficult I would imagine. If you go through with it, you will probably be the first to do it.
