Question Question about lifters, are there two different height sizes?

While I'm in the middle of my engine build I noticed after I bled the lifters that they appear to be different height sizes. Let me explain.

When the lifter is bled and sitting down in the head the lifter body is flush with the head. Now from the base to the top of the lifter (the area that moves) there is .065" height difference. I have 2 sizes, 8 on one side and 8 on the other. Should the taller ones be installed on the exhaust side or intake or is it something that they can be installed in any spot. Thanks in advance!

It looks like some are aftermarket and some are OEM but they should all be the same. They are all hydraulic, so the difference in height might just work itself out in the hydraulics

The overall length looks the same.

The scratches on the one means some particle harder than the steel got in the bore.

I noticed this on my last engine build. have prolly 5 different designs in the garage. they all work the same. I always loved ho people get worked up over the large hole lifters like they are actually better in some way. its the entrance hole that determines how much oil will flow through the lifter. the only thing that would get more oil if the large hole actually flowed more would be the cam follower. that being bb it doent need more oil. and hey with all the fuss about kiggly oil pressure limiters I would think the small hole lifters would be all the rage.
