Recommendations for engine build

I have an evo8 I'm going to rebuild. I'm thinking about going with an eagle stroker rotating assembly or maybe just keeping it 2.1 with je pistons and eagle Rods using the stock crank. Either way, this is my first dsm rebuild. Is there any tricks, hints, or things to look for other than the normal build criteria. I hear not to use the stock oil cooler? Any help or information would be great, thanks.

The car is a 2.0 stock, so with the factory block and crank, it will still be a 2.1. If I were going to do it for a street car I'd do the Manley stroker kit. Depending on what your ultimate power goals are you can stick with the h beam rods, or do the i beam turbo tuff's(you'll have to notch the block some for these rods).

The stock oil cooler thing, if the engine that's in your car now suffered a failure that put contaminants in the oil, then yes do not use the stock oil cooler, replace it with a kit from STM or the like. If it's perfectly ok and you just want to build the engine, then you can leave the stock oil cooler and save that 240+ for other stuff(Like a fluidampr if you go 2.3, when they come off backorder anyway)

By 2.1 i meant after boring it, it wouldn't be a 2.0 anymore. But I took a serious chunk out of my piston and burnt a hole in one of the exhaust valves. So I guess using the stock oil cooler is out of the question. I have no idea where the metal went, because there was nothing in the oil when i drained it. I'm assuming it just melted and blew out the exhaust via the huge hole in my valve. I'm looking to make somewhere around 450whp when the car is complete. Nothing too crazy.
