Fp or t3

So I'm in the beginning stages of my engine build and I came across a pte6765 t3 turbo. Less than a thousand miles on it, no shaft play, looks brand new. It's a journal bearing With ported h cover. My question is, should I spend the money for a whole t3 setup and probably spend about 2500 or just buy an fp black? I heard the fp would have the same power and 1k less lag.

For me, the need to deal with smog issues in ca forces me down to a stock frame turbo. I would prefer more options and go with t3/t4 setup if it weren't for smog issues.

Id really like to do a t3 setup. I love the way twin scrolls and dual waste gates look and sound. There definitely is a lot more options with a t3/t4 setup but if it would be a better idea to go with stock frame then the black would be enough to reach my hP goals for now.

6765 is in a whole other league than an FP Black. It is way laggier and makes a lot more power. A t3 setup would have a lot more flexibility and cost less overall. A t3 vband setup is super badass.

careful because a "highway killer" also can bite you in the a$$. everybody has a diff. opinion on how much lag they can handle. my friend had a 6765(813hp) and was a animal on the interstate. but playin around in city not so graet. i dont advocate racing in city but u get my point. my thing is if you know ur gonna want more than 650hp go t3. $2500 for a stock frame is abit crazy. its def. a hard choice, t3 or stock frame. i thought about it for 3 months. didnt wanna wait 4 months for a black so went with a t3 twin scroll. g/l on your choice

The FP line is good, but actually getting one is hit or miss. I'd go t3 and look at something like the 3076.

What are you power goals and how do you use the car? Those should be the first determining factors.

Second, Precision has a high failure rate with their journal bearing turbos, so know you take that risk. The risk increases as the turbo is pushed harder. The T3 turbo wont be twin scroll, so you would need to look at other options if its what you want.

The Black is a great turbo and FP is known for building solid products. However, the wait time for their turbos is exceedingly long and you should keep that in mind if you order a new turbo from them. If you can find someone that has the turbo in stock and it will be sufficient for what you need, thats the route I would take.

If you cant find the turbo in stock and dont want to wait several months you should consider other options.

I dont really have a hp goal. I've been building engines for a little over five years now and I've never stopped at a certain hp. But i do drive it often and it is a street car. The motor is a stroker 2.3 bored 20 over so I'm not too concerned about the lag the 6765 would produce but I'm also looking at a 6262 bb. They tend to have a broader power range. The more I think about it, I really think I'm going to go with the t3/t4 setup. Just seems like a better plan.

most definitely, I'm pretty sure this is the route I'm going. Prob with the 6262/twin scroll. Should be a fun little car. Thanks for all the input!

I have a dbb 6262 I am selling. Zero miles just startup on it till I realized my intake manifold was cracked and one of my 1600's was dead. I want to get a dry center one and mine uses a Garrett watercolor dbb center. I can get any size turbine housing you want since I am keeping my T4 housing. Mine is on a same and the waterlines aren't as easy to use as on an EVO.

check out CBRD they offer a ball bearing turbo for around the same price as fp but it uses a proven garret center section thats reliable.

also if you go with a t3 please stay far away from the 3076r its a very mis matched turbo that doesnt make very good power. the 3576r or 3582r spool a little bit slower but more then make up for it on the top end.

Yeah I looked at the cbrds, they do look like a good alternative to the fp for a little cheaper price. I've never used one or known anyone personally who has. Does anybody have personal experience with these turbos?

Why do you say the 3076r isnt a good turbo? There are people on here and i have friends that made very good power on that turbo both on pump and e85. Maybe you should read/ search more before you call a proven turbo basically "junk".
