Question Final Drive Gear 4.00 vs 4.11

Well my synchros have finally gave in, and I'am having some trouble shifting. Im considering sending my trans for a rebuild. Its amazing how hard is to get the trans companies to reply via email! I've been looking at Jack's website and it sites a final gear option of 4.00:1. They say it gives even more mph per gear than the 4.11:1 Has anyone have this upgrade? Any input on your experience would be appreciated!

For some unknown reason, I am inclined to believe them...

Do you have a need to get a higher gearing than 4.11:1? Are you trying to trap a speed the 4.11:1 won't get you to in 4th gear?

Get it! I'm curious too. I just had Jacks do the basic rebuild service on my transmission with the Evo 8 3rd and 4th option. The transmission feels great now. I decided to hold off on the final drive options for the moment. I put the shipping box up in the attic in case I decide to get it done later.

Why would you give up acceleration even further? The taller the final is, the more stress is put on the gears. Stick to the 4.11

I'm really not a hardcore drag racer, but I do find myself shifting pretty fast on some of the Mexican highways . If I could extend the RPM it would be better. Just never heard of anyone offering the 4.00. Im a noobie on this topic.

Just put my jacks tranny with 4.0 gears in 2 nights ago. Waiting on a IC coupler so i can drive it. Heres the deal, HKS is not making the 4.11 gears anymore. M factory makes the 4.0 gears that are available so thats what i got. I compared the difference on the gearing calculator and the difference is less than 2mph in each gear. So not really much at all....

I will report back after i drive it which should be this weekend.

At what rpm? Even though the difference may not seem like much at low rpms it still affects the car's acceleration.

HKS Might not make the 4.111 final drive kits anymore, but they are readily available from Mitsubishi as they were used in the Mitsubishi Legnum, 2.5litre V6 Twin turbo 4WD (ec5w chassis)

Thats what i'm using

Do you have the part numbers for the drive kit?

Try a google search, there's an OEM 4.11 final drive used in more than 1 Mitsu and the part number is listed on the forum a few times. And I second the fact that a longer final drive puts tons of stress on the powertrain in all situations especially if launching. I think if a 4.35 or so was available, it would be plenty for 90% of use wanting to upgrade.

This is what I have written down:

EC5A Galant VR4 final drive
MD748306 for the output shaft
MD770339 for the diff drive

Take it with a grain of salt considering this is an online forum.
