Fp green down! Need rebuild how?

I have a 73 HTA Ported FpGreen. I'm looking to rebuild. I did buy this (Feed Kit) which I thought was to help filter debris but evidently not. I had a thrust washer shred and crank walked. Some say cause due to ACT clutch setups. I'm not sure regardless of cause, I need to rectify the issue. "Play hard Brake Hard"

In the process I'm doing a lot of custom engine bay work. MS wire Fuse box relocate. Starting a big build thread soon. Thought it was a good time to do so since the engine is out. (Keep tuned for the thread link if your interested in following the build)

So with all that said... The engine is rebuilt now and ready, still have some head work left to do but the turbo issue remains and I need to rectify before it goes back in. It is a 73 HTA Ported Green 18lb gate FP evidently does not sell the rebuild kits to general public. It is understandable but sucks So how do I rebuild my green without spending 550$ at FP when i intend to get maybe a red shortly! my goal is 600 ATW I don't see it smart to spend 600$ then spend another 1200 to upgrade to a red from the green that's 1800 might as well just buy outright a red. I have a stock 8 turbo but also have the green. I will be upgrading to red or black or maybe something else but, my budget is tight and money is limited, is you can let me know some options. "Any help is good help".

Let me know if you need more information.

Thanks,
Steven

Some how this double posted. Sorry unintentional.

I've looked and FP won't sell their compressor wheels to the general public, and as far as I know they really don't tell you exactly which turbine wheel they're using either. I suppose it's obviously some variant of a ~TD06ish wheel, but I don't know if it's a wheel made specific to each turbo (ie. Green, Red, Black) or not. It's quite annoying.

Why not have your Green rebuilt into a Red or a Black by FP? Cant you just run the spare VIII turbo in the mean time?

What exactly is the damage to your Green turbo? Are the wheels damaged?

I had the same problem with a 1st gen FP green for a STI. It lasted 15k miles at 24 psi before letting go.

Since I`m 5.000 miles away from the US, sending it for a rebuild was not an option. I took it to a specialized local turbo shop and got the parts needed for rebuild identified:

1MH0116 Major repair kit TD05/TD06
TDO6 49179-30220 Turbine wheel
442293-0002 Compressor wheel TO4E35

This does not apply to your turbo, and if I lived in the US I would send it to FP, it just sucks that they won`t sell repair kits (specially for their overseas customers).

sparky The Turbine wheels are in great shape housings are on appears to just be a bad bearing. The shaft is welded to the turbine wheel and where the bearing meets the shaft appears to be warn. Here are some pics

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the replies. I intend to use my stock turbo for now, unless I figure something out before the it's completed. Depending on what I decide now, (on the turbo issue) determines what and how much I spend on some of the other things I intended on, before completion

I have disassembled the green not sure if Fp will still take it, for core on fpred, or if there will be an extra charge for damaged part; as I'm not sure what all they reuse.

I am pondering the idea of going another route, maybe a totally different turbo set up using external gate as apposed to internal, stock appearing setup. I have this idea to keep it as stock appearing as possible inside outside, but updated and upgraded. Cleaner engine bay, wires, better run lines ect. I just want it to look VISUALY better, an cleaner but not like I spend thousands of $ to have some professional turn it into a riced show piece. I value my work, and would have great pride in the accomplished job. Plus it keeps my mind busy from the pathetic drama filled life I live.

Maybe you guys could give me some other ideas? I'm going to start a build thread maybe tonight it will contain previous setup up. to current status. Would that maybe help anyone give me some ideas on the best economical way? I know performance is anything but economical, and not something to go cheap on.

I have done research but every idea and setup varies in many ways. Searching only gets you so far. Let me know if I should indeed start this build thread to help get this rolling again. Where do I place the thread, and if it will be of any help in determining my route to finish this project from here on out.

"Any Help Is Good Help"

Thanks
Steven,
