On pump/91 here in southern Arizona, you can expect between 23-25 PSI.

I made 360whp/360tq on a Mustang dyno with a 9 turbo, ic+pipes,255 pump and exhaust. Maxes at 27psi

Quote: ^ That's hard to believe, but 30 psi can be done even on pump.
why is that hard to believe?

my car was tuned on 26-27 psi spike on an evo 8 turbo with 10.5 housing stock injectors 93 pump gas and made close to that... 354 hp i think. i may add my car holds boost better without taper than alot of people i talk to. it holds 24-25 to redline. the only time i had a problem with taper was when we first started tuning and boost was set to 29-30 psi and it would still only fall to 25 or so.

I'm wondering how much load are you seeing at boost as high as 28-30 ? Or even load target you set to get there
I'm running about 25 on a 9 turbo and wish to get it a bit higher

It's not like I would gain much by lying a forum, but you can ask awd motorsports if you don't believe me.

most stock turbos will do 28-32psi depending on elevation, temperature and engine mods. I'm sure if you weld the wastegate shut and use a very high compression engine it could do more but that's not a normal setup.

Was running 18psi with gsc s1 for a year. And recently changed 255fp and adjustable FR. so went and tried 23psi. The first run of 23psi end the day with broken shaft and flying wheel...

what other mods? 32psi on E85 seems like a lot to only make 400hp

We hit a peak of 43psi on Tyler Wolfs worlds quickest stock turbo evo with a bone stock Evo 9 turbo. In fact, we achieved the same results on a second bone stock evo 9 turbo just to prove the repeatability. This was with a FP 25psi wastegate and the flapper was not held shut with any other means. It had over 200 dyno pulls in the 40+psi range over the course of his build. Did 467whp/445wtq on our mustang dyno. Dynojets run 13% higher than our mustang dyno for comparison. We originall started with E98 fuel bu then retuned with E85 and made the identical whp/wtq on E85. According to Rob@FP when he was given a tour of the Mitsubishi turbo facility, they said the turbo shouldn't exceed 38psi. I forget what part was the most likely to fail above that psi though.

This particular car had as little back pressure as you will ever find on the average evo and definitely makes it easier for the turbo to achieve those pressures. For the average street evo, the best thing to monitor to determine the recommended peak boost would be the turbo back pressure.

I can believe it made 527 on a DJ if it was 467 on a MD.

Having been there trying to make as much power as possible it becomes pretty obvious that the turbo has a really hard time making more than that. Luke made 522 without a dump but no matter how we built the car there wasnt anymore to be had.

I think if we took his 11:1 2.0L (still have it), added S3s instead of the S2s, did a full port head on it instead of bowl work, and a WG dump it would still be in the 530range. That was with an electric waterpump but the power steering was hooked up. Bypassing it didnt change power.

Yeah we went with an electric water pump as well after seeing what you guys tried back in the day. For the headache, it didn't add anything really. The only thing the crank turned was the alternator. We were surprised. This engine was a standard BR/2.0L long rod with 10:1CR, S3's on standard sized Supertech valves on an unported head. We were recommended not to port the head by a reputable head porter in the community but we personally feel like it would have been beneficial.

A repeatable 43# is a noreworthy feat. Makes me all fuzzy inside. The importance of reducing exhaust backpressure is instructive as it is frequently overlooked

It would be great to get more detail on the steps taken to reduce back pressure in this particular case. Was the turbine housing unported? Was exhaust pressure being monitored at the turbine inlet as well as post-exducer?
