This turbo should be fairly capable of a pressure ratio of 3:1 with a good lifespan. A 9.8 hotside turbo will have greater backpressure and would have more strain.

I concur.

My 9 turbo was abused for 2 years with boost ranging from 28-33 and it was still fine when I took the car apart.

Mitsu turbo's love boost.

If I was running a stock 16G constantly at over 30#, HEAT would be one of my main concerns in addition to exhaust backpressure. So, I would monitor EGT's, as well as oil temps and oil pressure. I might even hook up probes at the inlet and outlet(at least the outlet) of the IC so as to have the ability to monitor IAT's.

FP's oil feed line that sources at the filter housing would be nice as well. A higher capacity oil cooler is nice. And you can't underestimate the efficiency of today's high-temp coatings. I'd coat the turbine housing and the exhaust manifold at least.

You claim that heat is something you'd monitor in the exhaust housing with an EGT sensor, then you say that coatings are good. They kind of contradict since coatings also keep the heat IN the exhaust housing more. You want this since higher temps can increase exhaust velocity and spool. The biggest concerns would be shaft speed and back pressure IMO. These will put the most strain on the bearings and shaft to promote premature wear. You can monitor the turbos efficiency by logging AIT and pressure before/after the compressor housing. I would expect the efficiency to only be around 50-55% at these levels since it would off the standard compressor map.

Look at a BIG 16G compressor map (closest I have found to the evo IX turbo) to see where it will be at 3:1PR. It's definitely not at an efficent level lol. This doesn't necessarily mean the turbo will not last at these levels, just that it isn't in it's best range for performance.

I've been spiking 28-30psi out of a evo9 turbo with a TME turbine for a few years now with no ill effects. Its held together so far, one of these days the turbine will seperate from the shaft but still hasn't happened. I'd boost it more but I'm not ready to grenade my shortblock yet.

Running 30+ psi on the 9 turbo has been done.

Shaft speed is definitely a concern, and so is the balancing of the CHRA components. A factory assembled 9 can still be improved by high speed balancing. This was a topic that was talked about early on in the Evo community.

Well thought out porting of the hotside will also help.

There are pretty cool "things" a lot of smart guys are doing. It takes a lot of thought and tuning to get it right so don't be surprised that they're not jumping at the chance to share the details on here.

If you want to run something beyond what "EvoM" deems is "possible" then you're going to have to start testing for yourself.

I run 32 psi daily driven on my 9 turbo. No problems and no signs of shaft play.

Just make sure you have a good grasp on automotive technology and concepts before you attempt it.

So The set up really Depends on the max psi you can Run?
Also are there really no gains from a porting and Coating a stock 9 turbo?
