Turbo with a lag smaller and response better then stock?

Guys,

sorry it it's in FAQ - I did search honestly Is there any turbo with the same or better horsepower level but with smaller lag and better response then stock Evo 9 turbo? I've tried HKS GTII but it has more of lag and I don't like it on the streets or on the track ;( Any ideas?

Thanks!

Anton

the red isnt that much laggier than the evo 9 turbo and you can make tons of power on it. and you can always go BB red and make it spool faster.

I don't know how crazy you're trying to get, but I've had a talk with Spyros from Extreme Tuners and he builds a few custom stock frame turbos that do what you're looking for. His pricing is not bad at all, and I'd assume your wait would be no longer than that of a BB upgrade from FP.

This^^^ and you need to tune the rest of the car for what you want.
What I mean by this is, determine what kind of power band you want or are looking for and make sure you have the rt components to match your needs. You have the rt size turbo in the wht and hks. What else is on the car, what cams, what exhaust?---sounds like you are wanting more low end and midrange---the wht and the HKS are really nice turbos-- the wht will give you lots of lowend--the HKS will give you a broader power band--- I know what you mean with the hks--but I made cam timing changes and retuned and now transient response is like driving a video game--. You just need to match your components and tuning for exactly what you want.

71hta is extremely stock like uses stock turbine with 51 lb min compressor. Very capable mild upgrde. For tripple the money you could nail a red or a green bb

Same or better power, but with less lag and better transient response than the stock IX turbo. So it has to spool faster and have equivalent or if possible, better power. And you already tried the 7640 but it didn't quite fill the bill. Hmmm...

1) B.B. BBK-Lite
2) B.B. BBK-Full
3) B.B. HTA Green/9.8

I don't know whether or not FP will do a B.B. White, or a B.B. 71HTA, but these might also qualify. You could try piecing together your own TME IX turbo consisting of a TiAl turbine wheel and a IX coldside. Even do it with a 9.8 hotside.

^^ I thought CBRD wasn't making a BB BBK Lite? OT the HKS is already up there in terms of response if that wasn't enough for you the only common options I can see are the White, the JB BBK Lite and the TME turbo as others have suggested.

I only mentioned a BBK-Lite as a possibility because Chad dropped a hint and suggested it in another thread in which I was wanting a similar fast spooling turbo for my JDM RS with ultra short gearing. For my particular needs though, I think that I would order the standard BBK-Full with a B.B. center section. I am also toying with the idea of an HTA Green with the surge ported cover and having FP configure it with a 9.8 instead of a 10.5 housing.

The only problem with the fast spooling TME turbo is that it doesn't meet the OP's requirement of producing power equal to or more than the IX turbo although it does spoolup quicker and posseses superior transient characteristics. For power more than a stock MHI 16G IX turbo you pretty much have to go to a larger, aftermarket compressor wheel, and/or one with superior aero/tip design.

Yeah it's called a V8. You have the wrong car if you're looking for a smaller turbo than stock

As a matter of fact the title of fastest spooling 16G VIII turbo most likely belongs not the TME turbo but the VIII RS turbo, Why? Because although both use a TiAl turbine wheel, the TME was configured with the 10.5 housing whereas the VIII RS was fittted with the faster spooling 9.8.
