Get the TME 6.5. It has the smaller turbo compressor found on the EVO VIII and also has a TI impeller so it spools incredibly fast.

I had one on my 8 with cams and I could get full boost by 2700 rpm.

With the right mods and a good tuner this would spool quicker than a 2.0/stock IX turbo and probably be able to make 500hp/500tq. If u need more power and quicker response then that, then a 4cyl turbo car isn't what ur lookin for.....

No engine mods please as I'm just done with engine rebuild. And there's no E85 around.

Make sure the HKS wastegate actuator is working properly first. The HKS turbo is likely the best you are going to get without drpping power.

After that, look at the intercooler and piping to improve response. If you change the radiator and A/C condensor, you can cut about 6' of tubing out of the system. A smaller intercooler core with a large frontal area but thinner will still make good power but improve transient response.

I know what you mean though, I had a big *** intercooler/piping and a large tube exhaust manifold on the stock IX turbo and it killed transient response. Leaving me looking for better response. I think the answer is in these other parts though and not the turbo.

I'm on the way to replacing WG actuator and rod with aftermarket from Garrett. My one is dead and "tuning" it works for 10 minutes only (

I have aftermarket radiator. What's 6' of piping however?

I think I'll swap big APS for smaller BLITZ I had for years on old Evo Ix's I had.

One more suggestion is do a custom end tank(Back Door Intercooler)
Look at CBRD build thread of evodan's car
Hmm......Maybe time for GSC S1 cam/Tomei 260 Pon Cam

The HKS needs to be sorted and tuned properly to benefit.

What are you thinking about, Ang? Do you mean a staggered camset combining a GSC S1(intake)/Tomei 260 (exhaust)?

I think he just means either set, not a combination of half one set and half the other. Both are on the 'mild end' of the cam spectrum and can improve spool/response over stock without much (S1's) or any (Tomei 260's) sacrifice in drivability.
