Has anyone with a FP green and all other supporting mods in the 400awhp range switched to GSC S2's over the stock X cams?
If so then what gains did you see?
Having a hard time deciding between cams or saving for a Different turbo set up.
This is my daily driver and I don't want to switch to a a set up with a lot of lag.

That's an aggressive cam for a Green. Since it's a DD, I'd personally look smaller such as the Cosworth, GSC S1, or Kelford -B.

ok... so here is what my car has to start off with...before cams and turbo upgrade
1000cc injectors,
Deatchwerks 65c
AMS downpipe
ets intake
ets upper adn lower intercooler pipes
ets 4'' intercooler
custom 3'' to 3.5'' test pipe
custom 3.5 inch exhaust
ARP head studs AND ARP rod bolts
this was previous to the cams and turbo..
I have since then added the cams, and the fp green...
lets talk drivability.... with the GSC S2 cams on a STOCK turbo, it wasnt tooo bad.. the car drove like it was on or off.. before about 3500 it was sluggish.. i.e. sitting at a stop sign and then taking off.. it didnt feel as though the power was there.. HOWEVER.... once above 3800rpms.. it was great... I drove ym car this way for about a month, I wanted to spread the installs out to see how the drivaibility was inbetween so i knew if i had to go back to stock for something that i would be ok and know how the car drove and not think something was wrong with it..
now... lets talk drivability tuned for the stock turbo on gsc s2 cams....
MOST tuners and people would say.. dont do that... dont drive with your boost set high ect ect.. i dont care.. i can control my foot and keep it out of high boost..
with the fp green installed, with the gsc s2's and all the other mods.. still tuned for the stock turbo, I dont exceed 18 lbs... BUT.... the car pulls like it was on the stock turbo at half throttle.. bigger turbo more power... and there is minimal lag..
something i have noticed... my car sounds like a jet engine on a run way when my turbo starts to spool.. it is ALOT louder vs stock.. and you can deffinatly hear it in the exhaust.. :-) ( bonus cool points in my book )
gas consumption is something of a bother.. and when i have the money i will be tuning my car properly, this is a strong tuning point that needs to be taken care of and i will need to lean my map out in low throttle areas as well as idle... the turbo and the tune are important and as i said im tuned for a stock turbo at the moment..
Gains....
i was originally tuned @JMS Racing, at 313.9 awhp ( conservitive tune ) on the stock stuff, I did not dyno tune it with the cams, VG Tuning did a street tune, and the car pulled HARD compaired to stock.. I will be dyno'ing the car soon @SSP in houston to get some real live numbers and get ym transmission tuned.
from all the research that i have been going through and looking at.. and each car is different.. i have seen an average of evo 10's making between 390-450 AWHP at the wheels.. some things to take into consideration.. for me, i dont have a built block.. and it is an MR.. so i want to keep the tq numbers down.. and Eric at ssp can deffinatly do that and get things dialed in correctly.
Bottom line..
The FP Green is a great turbo, you can expect your car to be between 390-450 AWHP with the supporting mods... it is boost friendly and a great turbo.. the cams and the turbo are great... but something to keep in mind... gas... gas consumption... loopy idle... and drivability...these cams are not the nicest in traffic,.... but... do you wanna get a lesser cam and end up doing the cams twice? or gobig the first tim... ( ALSO.... they are HUGE when you install them.. they are really 274's not 272... here is some video and pictures.
all in all its worth it.. i love the looks from people wondering what the hell is in my car that sounds ( as one lady told me ) straight scary

1. Your Car sounds Straight ridiculous. thats intense.
2. This was very very helpful. Thank you a ton.
3. Your car sounds scary.
4. With what you said about it Being a tad doggy in the lower Rpm Range makes me feel like I should Go with a smaller cam, Maybe a S1 or similar like Kracka Said.
Im at 420awhp on the built block and head, and I still feel like I need a little more kick.
I could also just never get my foot into it except like once a month, this could also do the trick. But what fun would that be.
this did help a lot. thank you for your time.
I'm interested to see your dyno graph from when you get yours tuned at ssp!

That idle sounds mean, I like it. My Kelford-Bs are nowhere near that. I don't know if the SST hides it or if the tune compensates for it but my car idles and drives like stock. It made 450 whp on E85 (2.0l built motor, FP Green).

I have a green with S2's. I sit in San Diego traffic for at least an hour a day and have no problems with them at all.

If anyone in here thing the S2's didn't add lag to their car you shouldn't be posting at all...
There's plenty of Data of S2 Cams regarding spool up.....
S2+FPRed showed a major loss in Spool but top end was great. So with that said, Just like Kracka, We wouldn't recommend the S2's with a Green. Stick to something Smaller. S1's, 214A's... etc.
OR Best answer would sell the Green and go EF2.5/EF3 and you'll be happy with that on the Stock cams =)

My s2's didn't add lag at all!
They might loss a few hundred RPMs of spool, but that doesn't mean your car is necessarily flowing less air at those RPM's. I am willing to bet, back to back, with the right tuning (mivec) the car will only loss 200-300 rpms of powerband (meaning making less power than stock cams) and then you will gain power all the way to redline.
I stand by my statement that I have made before, I would run S2's on anything from stock turbo to 6262 size. It might not be ideal for everyone, but it doesn't bother me.
However, when people usually are scared about losing spool etc, they shouldn't really be looking at big cams and big turbos. Everyone's idea of lag is different and everyones driving style is different. We can only tell you our personal opinions.
My guess, you probably don't want S2's. Get some cosworth mx1's, nice midrange one. Those or GSC s1's I think are the ticket here. I think kelford b's still might be a bit aggressive if you care that much about response.
Also remember, we don't lose nearly the spool/response as evo 8 guys from big cams and we are even a bit better than the evo 9 for going big cams.

Okay. I'll listen and throw out the idea of getting the S2's.
thank you, this was very helpful.
I think I'll see about getting a ef3 or a red, and keeping the stock cams.
or maybe ill not spend a bunch of money.
but probably not.

I definitely have been in Contact with English Racing,
they did my motor build and Ive been emailing Myles and talking about a different turbo and cams.
Last time I was there I talked to Aaron about the S2's for awhile.
I just wanted to hear some of the members here opinions ans such because I know that most of you have a lot of experience with such things, and are very helpful. this is my first evo, and I havent had it for a long time, so I thought it would hear what others had to say.
But RAYS tuning in salem? Ive never heard of this. I will definitely have to check it out.
Thank you.
