Aight so I'm pretty new to evo's, I just bought my 8 about 3 months ago and I am literally in love with it...But I would like to start modding it. So my question is about upgrading my IC and my LICP.

Its an 03 evo 8, i think its set to 18 psi, it has an uicp, bov, intake, hallman mbc, walbro 255, TBE is gonna be ordered soon, and I have some various other non engine related mods (short throw, head unit, etc).

Over this summer, I was looking to get my exhaust and a tune, because I don't trust that the guy I bought it from had a very good tuner (he couldn't even remember the name of the tuner...). But overall I'm looking to get close to 300 whp from my car. It is my daily, so It would probably stay like that for a good while....if not forever.

So I was talking to a friend who just bought a new IC and was looking to sell his ams and ams licp for about $400-$500, which I though was reasonable. My question is, should I get it? Based on my plans for the car and where its at now with its mods, would it be worth it?

Mr.Burgundy you should skip the intercooler. Go with the licp,tbe and tune. Read as much as you can in this forum. You need to budget $$ for maintance for you Evo. Where in NJ are you

 

I'm from north Jersey....hunterdon county if you know where that's at.

I read over that, and it's great info, but the problem is is that I don't think my friend is going to want to split up the ic and licp. But I've known that the licp is one of the better mods that most people do...

The way I see it, I can buy a new ams licp for like 260ish, or I could spend maybe $150 more and get a new ic with the piping...I just don't know if it's worth it or I should put that 150 towards my tune fund.

 

hold off on intercooler, do everything else first. You can probably get cams for less than what your ready to spend

 

I would do andinjen intake system with upper and lower pipes along with an ETS front mount intercooler upgrade of at least 3.5 inches thick

That's a pretty good deal for those two items combined since the intercooler new is $750 and the LICP is 270. Most times I see just the intercooler going for ~$500 so with the price your buddy is selling it to you for, you're basically getting the LICP for free.

 

ETS > AMS.

Just look at the design. AMS' piping tampers down to a smaller size where as the ETS does not.

 

I bought my Evo 8 back in 2004 and just last year upgraded my stock IC. Only because I went off track and damaged it That being said, you can't beat that price so I would say go for it.

 

Yea I would agree that just get the licp if you plan to stay at 300 awhp. If you go E85 then I would see a benefit upgrading the intercooler.

 

Nisei>ETS>AMS

Why, you may ask?

1 - The AMS tapers down and is a two piece design, which I don't like.




2 - The ETS has no bracket, making it more prone to pop off because it's not supported.




3 - The Nisei fixes both of these issues.

 

We don't have a problem with the pipe popping off. We use high quality silicone and t-bolt clamps. Most manufacturers who build their intercooler piping out of aluminum have to use worm drives because the t-bolts will crush the piping. We use stainless steel and you can tighten the t-bolt down with an air gun and the piping will hold up. The stainless steel piping is much more durable than aluminum piping. You would be surprised how many calls we get for our lower pipe because the aluminum lower pipe they had ripped/tore at the bracket from vibration.

We also don't add a bracket so it will mate up to pretty much anyone's intercooler. Not everyone has the same intercooler location so if your pipe is fixed with a bracket it will not work. Our pipe w/o bracket has enough flexibility to work with almost any front mount on the evo.
