Well, long story short i bought an evo 8 from a dealer got a steal on it, had a freshly rebuilt motor(with recipts), has 56k on it, the motor has 3k on it, i was driving to school today, and then all of the sudden i just heard this terriable noise coming from under hood, i popped the hood and it sounds like there are like marbles somewhere lol best way i can decribe it, until i get home and can take vid, but the werid thing is it smells like a clutch, but then again it shifts and all that, it does have alot more chatter tho.....Any ideas? I mean the dealer said it had a new clutch but couldnt provide the recipts for that, but it does feel like an aftermarket clutch.....if it is the clutch what are some good options? Will post a video later

 

When the motors on and ideling does it sound like ***** rattling in a can.....if so that wouldnt be the clutch....

 

No just when im going, theres no way it would be anything with the motor, its brandnew, i think maybe a piece of the clutch plate broke but theres still enough for it to go and all that

 

Could be the TOB but usually when you hear that marble sound it could be tranny related. Drain trans fluid and see if there are any chunks. Also pop the inspection plug and see if the TOB is rattling around

 

mine makes a similar noise, its my TOB press the clutch and see if the noise gets softer or louder. Ill get around to replacing it when it breaks lol

 

You can try this. On an open road get some speed and put it in neutral and shut the engine off and see if the sound is still there. If so it might be the clutch. Also pop out the rubber inspection plug on the botom of the trans bell housing and see if there is anything visibly wrong in there of if there are pieces of the clutch plate. GL.

 

haha its going to make me look like a tard, but it turns out it was a bad ac compressor pump, and the smell that smelled like a clutch was the bearings burning up in it lol
