How can you tell when your oil pump fails?

So i have a prosport gauge. it was working fine until yesterday and all the sudden its stuck at 0psi and sometimes 30psi now for some reason.
Its stuck no matter how fast, what rpm im in
Im pretty sure its the gauge but for my own information, how do you know when your oil pump has failed?

The engine looses power, throws a rod or locks.

Oil pressure loss is the first and most important sign. Thats why oil pressure gauges are available. Have to protect your inveetments glad you have one, definently check oil pressure with a different gauge to really tell if its the gauge or the pump.

If the gauge is reading 0 then 30 and back to 0 and your FACTORY oil light is not on then my guess would be the gauge sensor is shot. if the factory oil light is on do not start the car. replace the pump

i would drain the oil and check it. make sure there is nothing in it. put new oil in the car and get a new gauge.

Sensor is gone. When I was running prosports on my first evo, I went through 3 sensors for those damn things. When you get a new sensor, I recommend getting a remote line that places your sensor away from the filter housing. They say the vibration kills the senders.

The sensor/sender. The unit that most usually install into the oil filter housing.
