Long story short I had my trans rebuilt recently, I also had evo 8 3rd and 4th replace since I need more mph. I got the car back after sitting at the shop for a few months took the car out a week after tried a couple hard shift immediately a notice the tranny feeling a bit notchy, soon after 4th wouldn't go in. It's like it would go in but once you stepped on the throttle the car wouldn't go anywhere. So this weekend I had some time and decided I'll take apart the tranny with the help of a with a friend of mine and see what the problem is.



One piece of the trust plate was just stuck on the under cover and other piece was just hanging in the trans



Then we pulled out the output shaft from the trans, it pretty much fell apart as if nothing was holding it together. Then I notice the thrust plate stopped was broken in half.



My next question is why did it snap in half and would that be the reason why the output shaft just fell apart once we out it out the trans. I didn't really notice anything else wrong in the trans, the shifter fork was fine so maybe thats why it wouldn't select 4th properly.

Anyone here ever had that problem?

 

Seems you need to find a new trans shop. If you just had it rebuilt I'd say installer error. What did you change your 3rd and 4th gears with? Custom made gears?
