Fp green only 12 psi?

I'm going to look at an evo 8 tomorrow that was an fp hta green turbo on it. He hit fuel/boost cut in the fall on a cold day at 22 psi so he took off his boost controller and now it's been running at wg pressure which is 12 psi. Does that seem like just a wastegate arm adjustment is all that's needed? Or could it be something more?

They have either 18 or 25psi gates from fp. He either reduced the wg preload, or something is shot/leaking.

And from what I understand fp sends the wastegate already preloaded, correct?

Yes.. My guess is he threw the turbo on without tuning so backed the preload way out... But it could be a lot of things. It could be the wg preload, the wg diaphragm, the bov etc. have it looked at thoroughly before you put money down.

I know he didn't have it tuned. It's an 05, has 23k on it. He's had it for the last 4 years and only put 5k on it and he put the turbo on after he got it. He's running a synapse sunchronic bov on it too. I've already set up a price with him which I think is a good deal for me if I get it.

And I'm new to evo's but not to cars... I'm a tech at an Acura dealer and have been building Hondas for years. just want to move on to something better.

Understandable. There's only so man things it could be; either the turbo isn't making the boost pressure, or it's being made and leaking somewhere.

Good luck!

I'm not sure if I understand the logic behind removing your MBC because you hit fuel/boost cut?

Sure, I've hit fuel/boost cut in the fall too when it's cold out... but I just turn the boost controller down???

Why I'm thinking is the wastegates been at 12 psi since day one, he put the boost controller on it to do 22, and he said he took his boost controller off since he didn't want to risk breaking anything. Cars never seen winter or rain while he's owned it, and he's gktnanfew stealths too. So he said he didn't drive it a ton and just left it at 12 to be safe.

I just asked him about the wastegate and he said he never adjusted it out the box. So is it likely that it just isn't preloaded? Or do you think it's something more. We agreed on 18.5k for the car, 23k miles. Wicked white, buddy club coilovers, new tires, drives perfect, full hks exhaust, synapse bov, for the price I think it's worth it compared to what others around me are going for. I just don't want to walk in to a problem car.

Ask him if he has a MBC, or get one and slowly turn up the boost to 18 PSI. If it holds boost, you should be good to go. You may want to pull off the turbo intake, and check for side to side and in and out play. You should barely be able to move the nut.. ( that's what she said) and go from there.

The actuators on these integral gates are adjustable. You can adjust the spring pressure above base pressure. So, the OP should try adjusting the actuator rod. This is the first thing that he should do.

Yeah it is probably the 18 pounder assuming that everything else is functioning properly. I doubt that it is the 25 pound actuator though.

I haven't seen it myself so I don't know for sure what he's got on there. The car had a previous owner. So, who knows what that other guy did.

FYI, when the HTA Green was originally released back in 2008-2009 it could in fact, be specified with the stock MHI IX actuator. The stock actuator was only available on the Green for the first couple months though. Afterwards, FP only configured the turbo with either one of their two HD actuators(18/25). So, technically at least, if the OP has one of these earlier HTA Greens......

The rating of the sping in the FP actuators is best taken with a grain of salt. Basically it is the same actuator that was marketed as a 17 PSI unit for DSM's. I have an FP 18 PSI WGA on my turbo and from the first day it would go full open by 13-14 PSI. I know that some of the 25 PSI units go full open at 18 psi. This is with no preload of course. So, with an 18 PSI unit a report of full open at 12 PSI is within the realm of reasonabe possibility, given unit to unit variances.
