Need a TON of help please...
So I bought an EVO, after trading my last one for a Z06, and it has an aftermarket HKS kit (GT30/71r) along with cams (HKS 264) and a few other things. Normally a thread per subject is easier to do but I have a list of issues and just want to put it all in one thread and hopefully someone touches on each issue:
1.) ABS light was on when I got the car. I got half way home and at the gas station I opened the fuse box to see the ABS fuse just laying there. I plugged it in and the light went off but the slightest touch to the brakes felt like the ABS was going nuts and then it eventually tripped the light again. What could be causing this? Guy said he had the pads changed and it happened when they did them and I assume he is the one who pulled the fuse to try and eliminate the light.
2.) Service Engine Soon light is on and flashes under partial throttle. Apparently the car has straight through exhaust and the guy said that the O2 is not plugged in since the custom exhaust doesn't have a spot for it. Im planning on switching the exhaust since its a bit overly loud but need suggestions on what kind of exhaust. By putting different exhaust on, will putting the O2 back in solve the issue or will it need to be re-tuned either way at this point? I live in MO so I HAVE to be able to pass safety and emissions and the emissions part is done through the computer now. The safety part (muffler, cat, and so on) I can get around but not the computer aspect.
3.) Random surging under WOT. When I put my foot to the floor it gets up to about 4k or then surges like something is wrong...lack of fuel, timing issue, or maybe a turbo component problem? My brothers ex had an SRT4 and hers was the waste gate. Thoughts on the cause and where to start?
4.) Car has a twin disc clutch. 100% overkill for this car and I am daily driving it so I dont want to mess with this thing in traffic. Car is "suppose" to be somewhere near 430awhp. What kind of clutch would be decent to go with that will allow for daily driving but hold up when I rip through the gears?
5.) Lastly, on the ride home I hit a bump at about 80mph or so and the car all the sudden felt like I was on water. Appears the lowering might have been done on stock shocks and they are blown. What is a decent shock to get so i can just use the same coil overs? On previous cars I have use Tein, KYB adjustables, Tokico, and Koni but unsure the best route to go on the EVO. I dont want to drop a ton of money but I do want something that will hold up and not rattle my teeth loose.
I THINK that is all I have discovered for now. Sorry if this is a ton of questions. Please dont respond with the "search" response. This is my second EVO, I have read read and read about the above, and I would just like to get some input bc each situation is different.
Thanks again.

2) Car has CEL flash on knock. Flashes when the ECU see's a certain amount of knock.
3) Start with checking and changing spark plugs. Could easily be a tuning issue as well, due to you getting knock at partial throttle.
4) Competition Clutch Stage 2 HD. Street disc.
First thing I'd do is get the spark plugs changed out, and get the exhaust issue fixed. New exhaust one that will work with all the stock sensors. Then get it tuned. It will fix the issues you're experiencing, plus give you a healthier running car.

abs light could be numerous things could be the module.....Best bet would be to jack it up, do a full brake flush since he changed the pads...mic the rotors make sure there not undersized even though it has nothin to do the light on, ud be suprised how many people pad slap before they sell a car. As far as blinking check engine light, i would start with a new set of plugs gapped properly, and followed by a boost leak test. As far as exhaust goes, swap it with a new downpipe and catback do a high flow cat, then the bung on catback you can reinstall your rear 02 sensor. As far as surging goes, you could be hitting fuel cut, best bet with that is to have someone with logging equipment log your car, at cruise idle and try to boost at 10 psi see if its knocking, or if your air fuel isnt optimized. As far as a twin disk those are good for that hp and more.
If your struts are blown on lowering springs, best bet is to buy new upper strut mounts as well. Sounds like you bought someones headache...sucks man try these suggestions, then go from there.
Good luck

could be numreous issues. I would have this checked if you are not sure what to look for.

This is probably in your tune to flash when you knock. I would not drive the car until you can have the tune looked at if you are hitting knock. do you have a wideband installed? Also I would invest in a tatrix cable so you can scan and research on the codes your car maybe throwing. If you have a test pipe you can buy a HFC that will have the 02 sensor bung in it so you can re add that. But.... You if the O2 sensor check is tuned out you will have to get it retuned to start reading again.
Do you know if you have the stock BOV? Also do you have a MBC on the car or EBC. Sound Like you really need to get this thing to a tuner to take a look at what is going on. Also you could have a boost leak. That would cause some surge

Not sure why you would get rid of the twin disk. I daily drive my car with a TD and its great. I would leave this alone. This is very close to stock pedal feel and will keep you happy as you rip thru the gears

If you can find a used set of MR struts and put some swift spec r springs on there. suspension options are endless
all this really depends on your budget but I would get the car looked at ASAP before you go romping on it.
Thanks again.

I just shot an email to AMS to see about them tuning it and possibly taking the car to them for a dyno tune. The car currently has a mail in tune from Dyno-flash. I will get some new spark plugs, to be on the safe side, and see if that helps any.
To answer a few of the other questions:
-Car has an aftermarket BOV from HKS
-Car has a MBC

Not to bash any companies, but I had the mail in tune from Dyno Flash on my last EVO (no mods besides a K&N drop it) and it surged after I got it flashed too. Im not sure if it is the tuner or what bc my last EVO was brand new off the showroom floor so there was no one destroying it before I got it and it ran perfect before the flash.

What plugs should I run with this setup? I read if you are making decent power over stock you should not buy the stock plugs again and instead go a step colder....thoughts anyone?

You can get them off of Amazon for less than $3 a plug. Gap at .022.

Also, definitely keep the twin. You will kill a single plate clutch much quicker at that power level. Who makes the twin clutch in your car?

Also, the surging is most likely from the HKS BOV. I had one of those two and had the same issue you described. Either go with an Evo IX BOV or going with something like a TiAL (if you are thinking about switching to speed density).

You know, I asked a bunch of questions about parts on the car and the guy didn't seem to know. I am thinking the twin disc was in the car prior to the previous owner before me and he had no idea what kind. I will say that it is VERY noisy and annoying...lol.

The difference is a solid terminal nut, or a removable terminal nut. I usually order the 5422 version (removable terminal nut). I would imagine it doesn't matter though. The solids are cheaper.
One would think that since this is a complete HKS kit for the car that the BOV would work fune but I have heard of the issues with the HKS BOV.

Anyways, one quick way to tell is you can jack the car up (put a jack stand under it for safety), there is a a small hole in the bell housing of the transmission (it's covered by a black rubber grommet) that allows you to release the TOB, you can also look through it (use a flashlight) and see what color the pressure plate is. From that you might be able to tell what clutch it is. For example, if it's purple chances are its an Exedy Twin.
