I use the NGK copper plugs. Personally, I like BR7ES. However, I have also used BPR7ES, and BPR8ES. Any of these are fine.

The copper plugs wear out a lot quicker than the Iridiums do. So, you'll need to be changing them out every oil change. Or at least every other oil change.

Iridiums come pre-gapped. So, you just toss them in as is out of the box. Some guys do gap them. But, you do need to be extra careful. The iridium plug's electrodes are brittle, so you run the risk of breaking one.

As for tranny oil: I use the Motul, "Gear 300", 75W-90. The tranny will be a bit balky from 1st to 2nd when cold. But, it is great once up to operating temp.

my evo8 is tuned for 220kw//700Nm trq (around 300whp//500lbs trq?) @ 21psi. full bolt ons, cams, ix turbo 20g housing.
even with my mods ive read a few posts that you shouldnt go colder from stock unless you are running 25psi + and or 400whp ??
i want to go iridium.. should i go BPR7EIX ?? or should i go one step colder ??

NGK bpr7es plugs. Work great and very cheap so you can afford changing them often.

BR8ES works as well if you don't like the protruding tip and want to go with a colder plug.

Anyone want to go into detail as to how the stock plug is not ideal?

Lots of people are quick to bash OEM parts (often for good reason), but in this particular case I recall seeing numerous threads/posts where people said that the stock plug was quite sufficient for a large amount of builds out there.

Is that incorrect?

Having come from the N/A world previously, it was almost always necessary to run a colder plug when you converted over to a F/I set-up for power.

Golgo: No one here is brazen and wreckless enough to argue with a Mod.
