oil cooler relocation WITH a/c (front mount?)

so as i track my car more, i keep thinking about how to go about managing heat. im still a novice and all, but i like to have an over prepared car to try and enhance reliability and such. i have wrapped my down pipe from outlet to just behind the oil pan, and will probably add heat reflective tape to the bottom of the oil pan as the next step (the high end aero-lite stuff).

obviously i think the biggest issue probably is the efficiency of the stock oil cooler as well as location, especially once you throw in a brake cooling duct stealing air from the cooler.

long story short, has anyone done a "front mount" oil cooler while maintaining a/c? i have seen a few setups with a large cooler between the radiator and intercooler, but on cars without a/c.

staring at my car, my idea was to mount one directly to the top of the intercooler (a wide not so tall one). on one hand i think this would be great because it is a high pressure area getting clean air right through the grill, but on the other, im not sure what would happen to coolant temps if i stole more air from the radiator...

any/all input is appreciated!

Maybe half size radiator? That should gives you enough space, no?

that would be counterproductive, he's trying to keep things cool here.
I dont think i've seen any track work Evo's with half size radiators.

I think you'll be surprised with how well the stock oil cooler works. The wheel spinning in the wheel well actually draws air through the oil cooler core. I would recommend ducting, and making sure the air can ONLY go through the oil core.

If possible do some logging of water and oil temps. This will accurately tell you whether or not extra cooling is needed.
Otherwise you might just be doing extra work for nothing!

What are you doing to help combat oil surge when doing track work in your Evo?

currently im strictly worried about oil, no water temp worries at this point. definitely keeping a full size rad, wasnt even a question. i have never seen anyone run extra ducting to the cooler? i have the factory stuff in place, but based on what i have seen from some other track evos, in a time attack style event things can get very hot very quick, especially when sticking a 2 inch tube in there to steal air off the cooler (Nathan/929 evo has posted some good data on this).

i have no evidence of high temps yet as i dont have a temp in the car yet, but between what i have seen other guys post, and the inevitable off track excursion that bends the oil cooler/rips it off that everyone has at some point...i figured why not try and come up with something to help the two issues.

you mean oil sloshing around in the pan? nothing yet unfortunately. i have a kiggly hla sitting here...tried to install it two days ago, and failed miserably at getting the valve cover unstuck, and due to not really wanting to break it i decided to try again another time.

Just put the oil cooler on the drivers side of the radiator. Then you dont have to worry about the AC fan. Short of that, leave it exactly where it is. When you see your Oil temps geting out of spec then worry about doing an upgraded oil cooler.

Yup on RH corners the oil fill slosh away from the pickup, and it not return to where it needs to be. Oil starvation imo is a much greater problem that oil/water temps. Not only will it eventually kill your engine, but it will kill your turbo too (if it's journal bearing). I'm going to be fitting an accusump to mine soon to help, but it's only a band-aid for the larger problem.
A lot of people go a 1/2 quart higher than "full" on the dip stick to help.
The kiggly HLA will do little to help the larger problem, while it is a step in the right direction

that was my only other thought, but it puts 85% of the surface of the cooler behind the intercooler, so you may wind up in the same situation.

i do overfill by some for the track, i didnt think to mention it. im in the planning stages of reworking the whole thing, oil cooler is probably the harder one to deal with though.

i guess no ones really done anything...
