I had a problem like that one time when I drove around for about a week without an oil cooler. When I reinstalled my new one the temps went back to normal. Long periods of driving is when you will see high temps running with no cooler, You can run without one, but why??

240* is not really too high.it's higher than stock EVO's for sure, but as long as you use a good synthetic you'll be fine.if i was running 240* everywhere i would want a racing oil in my engine, ester based or PAO base race oil.they are more resistant to heat with flash points over 400*.

or if you run cheap oil buy an oil cooler.

Hitting ~220* while cruising with no cooler. Only running without one right now as I'm breaking in the engine and want all the shavings cleared from the engine before installing my recently bought new one.

Get a good cooler installed and deal with the problem being solved.

You rebuilt the engine and have metal shavings?

Metal shavings, aka, minerals from seating your rings. okevolution knows his stuff.

If you don't have anything to offer the OP then why post?

Back on track.

Get an oil cooler.

Gotcha...that's usually more of like a metallic dust that would be hard even notice during an oil change if you weren't looking for it. I guess "shavings" can be misinterpreted since most people think of somewhat large pieces of metal when they here that word.

I got ya mayne. I was just explaining, but sounded more like attacking . That's how I can tell it's late.

The 2 first oil changes on my built engine, the oil came out sparkly like glitter. I'm currently installing a fuel cell in which time I'll get the oil cooler installed, I don't like glancing at the oil temp gauge while only cruising and would like to drive worry-free of high oil temps.

I may also try a Tomei T-stat killer during the summer to see if my oil temps will go down but not enough to take the oil out of its proper operating temp.

You're the one who had the thread on a rusted tank right? I meant to post in there that I had the same problem after letting the car sit over the winter. Ended up trying the por-15 tank sealer kit and it worked wonders! I thought it was worth a try for $70 instead of dropping a bunch of cash on a whole new fuel system. Just some friendly advice...off topic I know.

Just would like to add that I've recommended to several member to do what I did. Delete the oil cooler during break-in with the STM oil cooler delete. This will eliminate any metal particles from getting getting stuck in there and coming loose later on. May not matter either way but spending $20 to make sure my new oil cooler has clean oil running though it gives me a piece of mind. The time and money I've spent on the car would make most do the same.

The new 16 gallon fuel cell setup is almost done. The cell, pump, and lines all weigh under 15lbs which is nothing compared to the weight of the bare OEM tank. My tank was rusted to the point of not messing with it once I got a good look inside when it was removed.
