I would say 94awd has it pretty much on the head. The question lies really on how many people have taken the head off of their 600 mile engine to notice? Also if you pull the pistons out is there noticeable damage to the thrust sides?

PTW is .0035" according to the measurement that was documented during the build process for this specific engine. We do our own machine work in house with some of the best measurement tools money can buy and this is not our first rodeo. Any insinuation that PTW was incorrect or that the bore was out of round is simply unfounded.

D00d. Motor is broken in at 500. Took the head off to put a ported one on to start tuning. What's your issue?

Chris:

I'm throwin' on the head and am going to run it, sir. I'll let you know how she performs. Chris, I was also going to ask: I plan on making 700/600 or somewhere in that ball park some time next year. Do you think the ring gap will hold me back from that or be alright at that power level?

Absolutely not, we build our stage 2 engines with those power levels in mind

someone who wants to replace the stock head with a ported head obviously,if you read the thread.

Blue91,i wouldn't put that new head on that block.just run your stock head,or replace the short block.

what did compression and leak down say,got blow-by?

Sorry man, never saw this post.

As of when I pulled it the compression was 160 or so. My good buddy has about 1200 miles on his motor and we ruled out the turbo and the head, but has 11% leak down on a few cylinders and burns 1 qt of oil every 300 miles. No leaks, fresh head rebuild, brand new turbo that was completely gone through for verification.

I want to trust Chris above and run the motor, but if it fails I have the chance of losing my new head and sending a rod through my block, destroying my t case and other parts.

I'm just hesitant to put it back together because I really don't trust it, and I really wouldn't even feel comfortable selling the motor to someone if/when I pulled it out.

Decisions, decisions.

It wont kick rods out because of the wear patterns. You'd hear noises before failure if it were to occur, bearing noises, down on power, etc.

ouch. if you went a full 3k without tracking your car (obviously flushing fluids after an event), you'd be talking about 10qts of oil. At the price of Zrod like many (including me) run, that **** would add up.

in fact... wonder how quick that would add up to the price of just getting it honed, reringed, and maybe bearings. maybe think of that if you're trying to justify things?

That's not me. That's my friend. I just don't want mine to end up like that.

Blue, you got my PM, and as 94AWD stated, you will be fine. My engine shows this kind of wear (boroscope), and as 94AWD stated, hit right on the nail, my car having an AEMv1 takes about 4 turns to start. Plenty of wear. But running about 16k miles with it on high boost, bad gas, etc...not planning on a teardown yet.

maybe you should take it out and have someone professional take it apart and go through it.

Both of these posts make me feel a bit better.

I'm just getting a final consensus before I slap her back together tomorrow .

Unfortunately that costs some cayesh mang. I want to buy a TIG and wouldn't be able to if I dumped any more money into this motor. I'm going back to school in two weeks anyway so I'm over driving it .
