ATP GTX3076R install

was debating on FP green for awhile but my tuner recommended the ATP GTX3076R, so i went with it. not looking for huge power, just something that's decent and reliable for track. i was worrying about stock frame turbo cracking from track duty. the ATP turbine housing is very beefy but it's also a lot heavier than oem turbo.

painted the center housing with 500 degree paint. i hate rusty turbo

port and polish the turbine housing, also cleaned out the wastegate port

turbo bolted to the oem manifold

had to make a new LICP, the outlet pipe that came with the ATP kit is designed for oem LICP. I decided to go with 2.5" LICP.

had to cut the hose nipple off and relocated because it was hitting the front engine mount, didn't have the mount on during test fit. doh

the kit came with -3an oil line without any restrictor. several people recommended that i use a .035" restrictor for ball bearing turbo. i was only able to fine a .04" restrictor for -3an line.

test fitting and clocking the compressor housing

had some issues with the turbo blowing oil at first, car was smoking after decel from full boost pull. turns out the oem PCV is too restrictive. so i removed the PCV and ran it to a vent can and that fixed the issue with smoke from the turbo.

^ I use 500° paint on the center housing and 2000° paint on the turbine housing. The center housing doesn't get super hot, its oil and water cooled. I've done it on other turbos and the paint holds up fine.

Please read forum rules before you post. This is the engine/drivetrain subthread not the newb subthread

You owe me waffle cone with all the trimmings if you don't hit 140 before the inter loop at WGI next month.

Nice write up, keep up the cool DIY's.

I've used 2000deg on the turb housing too. The color fades a little and it might flake a tiny bit (hardly noticeable unless up close) but still looks better than ugly rust. It should hold ok. Its hard to prep cast iron cus its pitted. Prob will have to repaint next time turbo gets pulled but again, I'll take that over rusty housings. Nice looking setup. Always liked the gtx3076...great response for a 30r. Post up dyno or vd if you get a chance.

Central PA... I'm not too far away. I'd be interested in seeing how this turbo performs first hand.

Time for a road trip.
