Question Idle problem

Well here we go. I was driving from WA back home to NE. A porcupine decided to play frogger with me when i was doing 80. Needless to say he lost. Minor damage to my lip kit had to replace the engine oil cooler and my turbo was whining. Found a leak right below the turbo where the piping connects to the intercooler. Fixed it but now i'll be sitting at a light or stopped and my car will just randomly jump up to around 3k RPM. It'll stay like this sometimes for a few seconds other times for a few minutes. Any thoughts? 06 evo ix.

Did you run a boost leak test yet? That is the first thing to do. Fix any leaks you find and see if that stops the problem.

The next thing to check is the ISCV or idle air control valve on the throttle body. If you have an 8 they wear the plastic guides down and randomly get stuck open. The solution is to either fix the guides creatively with crazy glue and small strips of plastic, or buy a replacement. The MITSUBISHI GALANT 1999-04 IDLE SPEED CONTROL ISC IAC 2.4 is a direct replacement and can be had on eBay for $50. If you buy ISCV new it's over $300.

Let us know how you go.

If it turns out to be your IAC, make sure you do it with this style (not sure if the 06 are this style or not so just make sure).....spring on the outside...far more durable. I have replaced 3 IACs on my Evo 8 and the 3rd one I finally replaced it with this style and it has been golden ever since.

I already did a boost leak test and got the leak fixed and its a 9 not an 8 (don't know if that matters much). Thanks man i'll take a look at my IAC.

I do not...just search around...There are several other vehicles that use this style aside from some evos. This will save you money...if you are in a bind...you'll pay 70-100 for a used evo one vs 50 or so.
